Blinkin89: As someone who has crowd-funded The Long Dark I'm very happy to have my Steam key swapped for a GOG key! Thank you for making The Long Dark DRM-free, I absolutely love this game!
It is certainly the best project I have ever crowd-funded.
Hi, could you please tell me, did you actually swap your steam key for a gog key by asking the devs or did you just end up buying it on gog and not using the steam version anymore.

I'm asking cause I have TLD on steam and would like a gog copy instead but I'm not a backer and don't want to rebuy.

I actually swapped my Steam installation for a GOG one. If I remember correctly there was a announcement in February 2016 about the release of the DRM free version of the game.
I contacted Hinterland though the Hinterland forums on the topic about the announcement. Bethany (at the time working for Hinterland) informed us to send an email which is what I did.

I have to note that at the time it was specific meant for the backers of the game because a DRM free copy of the game was promised to all backers. I was even more happy to see that everyone will be able to buy such a copy through GOG. :D
I'm not sure if they're still swapping keys.. but if I was you I would just try to contact them. Hinterland is an awesome studio so you should give it a go. :)

The email-address I had sent my email to is: info@hinterlandgames.com

Awesome, thanks for your response, I'll try contacting them and give it a go.
Really bad, that the game was removed from the gog, I'm so upset!

Any news / info about returning The Long Dark to Gog store? Maybe in near future, please!

To be honest, I am not sure that the Hinterland Team will read this comments and not talking about giving an answer, unfortunately...

Hope that all the pieces falls down together into a convenient ground for all parties and we get the game back in the store.
This all is even more relevant now as they announced paid DLCs. And while they bring updates to GOG version I somehow doubt they'll introduce those DLCs here as the game is delisted.

weeks ago I emailed hinterland regarding the future of tld on gog. this was short after the anouncement of the paid DLCs. I got no answer, even when I retried. I guess they are not really interessted in some 10+ people still playing the gog version :( (its not about the money, its about steam i really hate...)
I reached out to the Admin at the official forums and the reply I got was;

Hi Hawk,

Thank you for reaching out. We are factoring GoG into our plans, and hope to share more information as we approach the launch. We appreciate your patience!

that sounds hopeful. thanks for researching hawk :)
Prior to TLD 2.0, the following system has successfully run TLD through many versions of Mint and TLD (starting with early early kickstart). Currently under 2.0 the initial load never reaches the wintermute/survivor menu. It crashes to desktop somewhere prior to the game selection menu.

A reinstall of 2.0 produced the same results.

------------------

Operating System: Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon v5.2.7 Kernel 5.4.0-84 with all updates applied through April 10, 2022

Hardware: i5-4690 @3.50 GHz, 32G Ram, 500GB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, 4.0TB HGST Hard Drive, GTX 750 Ti, Dual Monitors

------------------

May 6, 2022 Update

Have installed TLD v2.0 on a different PC running Linux Mint with kernel 5.4.0-109 and same hardware specs except only single monitor run off processor. Same crash to desktop.

Searching internet has not found any others with issues, any help appreciated. Have tried submitting trouble report to Hinterland but doesn't seem to "complete" the process.

-----------

February 23, 2023 Update
Game does not get pass initial in game screen with v2.02. Game will close as soon as any player action is taken. Currnet Mint version is 21.1 and kernel 5.15.0-41.
Hello,

I installed The Long Dark again today and it seems that we who purchased the game here are still stuck with version 2.02 that was released around August 2022. There have now been over 20 version updates at Steam after that and THE TALES FROM THE FAR TERRITORY downloadable content that is not available on GOG. Hopefully the developers at Hinterland have not totally forgot about us.

Hinterland has not so much forgotten as chosen to not do business with GOG - see the relevant thread about the game's removal from GOG.

This is why the game can no longer be bought by new customers.

I am guessing that they have a contractual obligation to eventually complete the product they initially sold here but no obligation to sell new stuff (such as the DLC). To avoid disappointment, I would assume we're not getting anything except some sort of final update when Episode 5 of the story eventually comes out. Which may or may not be equivalent to what's on Steam at that point.

hi, they write in the Hinterland forum that they don't forget us and communicate when its needed. so today they're finishing the dlc, and the 5th story. I expect to have DLC & story. they've given the update before, whatever the relationship with gog, I think they'll do it once all stabilized,
bye

Well, that could mean anything. Ultimately, I think if Hinterland were really interested in us on GOG, they would have reached out. In the meantime, I know every tree on every map, but oh well: at least the weather is always different ;)
