The first time I made it past Vienna, I, at some indeterminate point shortly thereafter, became stuck in a state of constantly holding the briefcase. Holding the briefcase limits your actions. Since I no longer actually had the briefcase, I could no longer stash it away or give it to the German. I could rewind a little and undo it, but it was still apt to re-appear. More specifically, the game seemed to think it was in the, let's say, 0th position in my inventory. The space where "nothing" normally resides. For example, if I had selected the key, and then clicked on the face icon to cancel the key, the game would then think I was holding the briefcase. Any situation in which an item was selected and canceled, or used incorrectly, would trigger this effect. I was able to work around it until it came time to diffuse the bomb just before Budapest. As the telegraph was an examinable item, I could not select it without also examining it, and upon exiting the close-up examination, I would then be holding the briefcase, with no way of canceling it or switching to anything else. I had to rewind all the way back to the concert to prevent it from happening, because once the value is set erroneously, there's no way for it to self-correct.

So fortunately I did not have this particular bug again. But now I cannot sleep. I've done all the prerequisites, as I had done them previously, except this time no one ever turned down my mattress for sleeping. Which means i just have to stand around for almost 2 hours of game time, while all the NPCs are sleeping, plus I miss the dream sequence. Once 10:30 rolls around naturally, here comes Alexei, and things seem back on track. I walk in on them and then go diffuse the bomb, talk to everyone important, and now I'm off to sleep to trigger the next event...except I still can't sleep. At this point I just let it run while I watched Netflix. Eventually, I suddenly went from standing in a hallway to lying on the floor, bound. I gave up at this point and quit for the evening, as I had already rewound significant chunks of time about 15 times in attempts to work around these and other bugs.

For a game that's fundamentally based on being totally immersed in the story, all these bugs make it a bittersweet reunion. I don't know if further work could be done to identify and resolve the root of these issues. For what it's worth, I recommend quitting and reloading frequently, as that seems to lessen the frequency of these issues for me.
It seems that the issue with not being able to sleep on the way to Budapest, as well as the issue of not being able to diffuse the bomb, is all somehow related to the briefcase. I was getting through Vienna without giving the briefcase back to Kronos. Even though I still had the briefcase, it was still mysteriously gone. But yet, when I go back in my room, the POV defaults to looking down at the floor, as if the briefcase were still there.

Anyway, as long as you get through Vienna the way you're supposed to, it seems to be fine after that.

Weird. I did so as well, and didn't have any problem at all. Must be some very specific conditions that trigger that bug.
