This may make me sound like a b1tch but I always felt the mature audience allows for users to voice their opinions without retribution.

I am a grown ass man, but paranormal scary movies really freak me out. I wanted to know if the cat lady is more of a slasher film or it leans more heavily on life and beyond type of scaryness.

I want to play it myself and not watch "Lets Play".

Appreciate the feedback guys.

Hey, sNOOZ!
Think of The Shining (movie) - a tale about paranormal, but you can't be sure what is really paranormal and what is just in Jack's head.
Think of Cabinet of dr Caligari (1921 version is public domain in US, so you can download it if you haven't watched it before) in terms of perception of reality.
Think of David Lynch.

Now I'm not gona lie to you - there are some themes often present in slasher movies:

MILD SPOILERS
.
.
.
a masked killer, a mute, mysterious killer, a family of insane cannibal killers, a manipulative Hannibal-like killer. Those are here, but they are not the essence - they act as a background to show us who Susan is, how she feels and how her character changes.

Thank you Novotnus, if I understand it correctly, but loosely, it resembles a psychological thriller infused with small elements of the paranormal. I watched a first few parts of a lets play series on youtube and I must admit that it is certainly captivating.

The voice acting thus far is solemn and gritty, something I have not seen from the games I've played.

That's correct, only the paranormal element is pretty strong.
Hi sNOOZ, thanks for asking this question -- and for the record, I do not think you sound like a b1tch. I also get really freaked out by horror movies and games, but this game looked so interesting and compelling that I really want to play it. But I'm afraid of getting started and then regretting it by getting too scared. :-/

I cannot play action/FPS horror games because I can't deal when monsters leap out at me. This game has been compared to Silent Hill which I find far too scary. Any parts where I'm going to have to shoot monsters quickly? Or is this more of a "moody" horror like The Path?

My husband will kill me if I play another game that freaks me out and keeps me up at night worrying about every creaking floorboard. :)

There's one instance where you need to shoot someone, but it's not timed, as far as I can tell. In fact, you can take your sweet time.

But the most important part: The Cat Lady is an Adventure Game. Similar to Point 'n Click, though Susan can only move to the left and right. So, if you played any Adventure Games you have a basic idea on this game.
There are no... well... there are weapons. How do I put it?
You don't fight enemies, like you do in Silent Hill. All you do is solving puzzles and using items at the right moment. Like weapons. In fact, there's never any real fighting in this game, like in FPS.
Also, people do die and there are a few jump scares. The creepiest moment is probably when Susan is locked in her neighbours flat.
But there are more creepy things. People do die over the course of the game and ther eis violence.

But in any case: In the rare occasions a monster does jump out at you and you're so terrified that you run out the room, don't worry. Susan (the main character) will probably still be alive and the scene wont have changed.

Also, considering what the first parasite does and how Susan leaves the Queen's world, I'd say you will keep your husband up at night. Though it is not for creaking floors.

Now, I suggest you go visit youtube and watch the early game videos. Maybe until Susan wakes up in the hospital. Then you have a basic idea from where the Cat Lady gets the suspense and horror.
And yes, worse thing will happen than what happens after she pushes the button to activate the machine.
If you think you can make it, then enjoy the game. I know I love it.

Watch the first vid in a LP of this game; that should give you a fairly good idea of what kind of tone you will be working with to keep you from annoying your spouse (not that I understand the annoyance, but to each their own).
