I love the game and everything but I'm not willing to put the work in to get what I assume will be more depressing endings, and I'd liked to leave a game like this on as high a note as possible. I can't find any videos of anything different. (and I like having the internet do my work for me)

- What if you take the gas mask for yourself? (kind of a bitch move when you're immortal)
- What if you pick the wrong candle or refuse?
- What if you let Mitzi shoot him?
- What if you just leave during chapter 2?

EDIT:
One other question, while I'm here. Is it possible to finish chapter 3 filling up the green bar? Because that sequence is either

a) an insightful, clever statement on the insurmountable nature of depression beautifully, almost deviously accomplished through the subversion of video game tropes

or

b) GRADE-A BULLSHIT. SO THERE'S A CROW ON YOUR BALCONY. DEAL WITH IT.

Oh, it's bullshit. It can be done, if you go straight for the purse and fill up the meter (not that you know to do this, since you don't pass the meter and get the chance to notice you need to fill it, or, if you live State-side, know that this is even a thing) and avoid the milk (seriously, Susan, sniff the damn stuff first). As to the crow, I almost raged when I realized that I couldn't get rid of it by summoning the cats. In fact, in order to get the "best" ending, you *have* to avoid having a breakdown, which is all the more baffling because the ending has no correlation to that action.

Actually, you have to do a lot of (mostly) unrelated bullshit in order to get this ending. The list is here, but the devs decided to get cheeky and added a 6th factor to the list of 5 factors to be satisfied in order to get the ending and are refusing to say which is the red herring.

Out of curiosity, what are the right moves?
In my ending, I refused to blow out a candle. Susan returned to life anyway and I talked out Mitzi of killing the Eye of Adam.
In the ending, Mitzi was alive, Susan said her (Mitzi's) condition improved and that both visit the grave of susan's daughter on a regular basis. What ending was that?

Also, I had a save at the beginning of chapter 3. After having a breakdown, I just reloaded the save file.
Funny, I had red and green equal, but it seems red is favoured, if both meters have the same height.
Either way, I knew to take the coins first to avoid the Shadow of X, by switching the light on and fill up the meter first.
That way, I had no blackout when Susan wanted to take the Shower. And I didn't know there was milk in the fridge. I only saw the coffee friend-stuff.
So, it's doable. Your red meter will get halfway through red anyway.

That's the best you can get : )
To get it, you must:
- Prove Liz that you've listened,
- Solve Crow's riddle,
- Avoid breakdown,
- Give Mitzi the mask,
- Refuse to blow the candle.
As far as I can tell, you don't have to refuse the Queen when you first meet her. I accepted to kill the parasites and still got the best ending.

My interpretation:
The best ending happens when you "defeat" Queen of Maggots, who's the ultimate parasite feeding on people's depression, desperation and death.
1. Liz - Queen wants you to hate people, to treat Liz as nothing more than annoyance. When you listen to her and care - you do the opposite to what she wants from you.
2. Crow's riddle - that one is simple: Queen wants you to fail, so you must win.
3. Breakdown - Queen is \ feeds on Susan's depression. Breakdown, despair and tears feed her. Avoid them and the old hag will starve.
4. Mask - that one is simple, you can't let Mitzi die if you want to keep her alive until the end : )
5. Candle - once again, you don't do what Queen wants from you; by refusing to blow the candle you prove that you don't need the Queen, that you break the ties with her and refuse to follow her rules. You come back from the Otherworld in an act of pure will and personal strenght.
When Queen's grasp over Susan is loosen, the miracle can happen.

... ... I'm awesome. Best ending, without even trying. (;
Okay, I reloaded chapter 3. But I didn't know it affects the ending.

How about the the "Cat Widow" story? As far as I can tell, it's a "Choose your own Adventure"-type and in the end, you can decide to shoot her victim with a shotgun.
I went for the supernatural aproach and just got closer, scaring him with the widow's... uh... pretty face.
But how it's shown, Mitzi and Susan are doing the stuff to scare him. So, if I choose to pull out the Shotgun and shoot does it affect anything as well?
I mean, I watched the trailer, and it shows the scene, where the widow shoots the guy from flat 5.

If you say something stupid \ irrational - Mitzi will break in and tell Susan that's stupid \ impossible. The story will reverse and you'll get an option to pick another choice.
How do you think they'd get a giant, blood-soaked zombie cat? : ))
I liked those options, Susan carried away by the story she's telling felt very real and alive : )

Different endings have different monologues + the best ending has one (yet very important) visual change. I think that's OK as you have to "cheat" (or use outside knowledge) to beat it. It's nearly impossible to avoid breakdown if you follow the rules and instructions. Give us a link when you're done!

Well shit, I just beat the game and figured I had gotten the best ending so I uninstalled and decided to start something else from my backlog. I guess Mitzi living out the rest of her 6 months and Susan coming to terms with her depression and making friends wasn't the absolute best one then?

There's one thing that really bothered me though. In the final chapter you stumble into Joe's apartment and have that whole dream sequence with him and his zombie wife. It seems pretty obvious that he is the last parasite and possibly even the Eye of Adam but you decide he isn't and you just leave, never to consider Joe again. Was that just a red herring to keep your attention away from the old man or does the best ending involve Joe somehow?

The whole sequence with Joe and his wife has nothing to do with getting the best ending as far as I know- it's a long reference/cameo to another game called Downfall- which is by the same creator.

This is normal best ending.
But it's not the Super Best Ending where the final cementary scene plays a little different : )
