This is a lot of update. Are they basically tossing the entire game every update? Or do I now have 60+ GB of Bard's Tale IV on my hard drive?
When we issue patches through digital services such as GOG and Steam, we don't have much control over the final size of the files. That number can vary depending on the digital distribution platform, the specific game and its engine, and the extent of changes made.

Hi Eric.

I am a kickstarter backer of Bard's Tale 4 (can't remember how much I ended up backing in the end, but it was the tier that included all of the digitial extras). Would it by any chance be possible to switch my copy of the game for a Steam key? I'm on a really slow internet connection right now, and I cannot handle these large updates. The game itself took me two days to download, and for the first patch I left my PC on overnight then downloaded the rest over a friend's broadband. It is _really_ inconvenient to keep getting these massive patches. I played 13 hours of the game before the first patch came out, and I have barely touched it since because it means having to keep my PC on for another 24+ hours before I play the most up-to-date version.

You know what, as a lover of RPG's and a massive fan of the originals it really hurt me to say this, but this game is a mess.

I managed to play up to the start of the Charn based dungeons, finished the first one and then teleported back to Skara, - I then experienced a strange bug where I just fell through the world, I could see the map of Skara above me getting smaller and smaller, for some reason when I tried previous saves it had the same effect of then dropping me through the world wherever I was.

It took me a while to realize what I was feeling... and it was relief... Relief that I no longer had to try to force myself to love this un optimized, over bloated, ridiculously large patches, horrible visuals, buggy, repetitive (another round of fairy golf/cogs/Charn blood anyone???) abortion of a game.

Uninstalled and moved on. At this stage I will just play the updated collection games which IMHO are infinitely better than this horrible attempt at Bard's Stale / Bard's Fail.

If you are looking for a great RPG try PoE II or Divinity if you haven’t played them
23GB really is a horrendous download every single time, when on Steam it's a normal sized update (a few gig tops). Another evening lost not playing it due to the patch!

Cmon GOG!!!! Sort it out, how hard can it be when you do it for every other game?
Not again!

I set it to not auto-install updates but I when I saw that this one included GPU optimization I decided to get it. My GPU is running around 95 to 99% when playing, and that's even turning everything down to medium and low and unchecking all the extra graphics options.

I get a good framerate, but I'm worried about stressing my GPU. I burnt out a Nvidia FX 5200 once trying to make it play Elder Scrolls Oblivion.

Reinstalling the whole game every update is dumb.
This is getting ridiculous - get your shit together GOG and developer and fix this issue. Man - Kickstarter is good for one thing at least - learning never to bother to pay money in advance. Only positive surprise so far was the POE 2 and Shadowrun games. Rest has been a rather cumbersome reminder of what happens when you DON'T vote with your wallet...

Nothing the developers can do to make the patch smaller. The developers have to make changes to the files they have to make in order to fix the game, if that means they have to make changes to almost every file to fix the game then so be it. The real issue is that GoG doesn't do binary delta patching that Steam does, GoG only just replaces full files that have changed, where as Steam has a much better system to update games that make the updates smaller cause they use binary delta update system.
Yay. so far I downloaded 5x26 GB for Bard's Tale since I initially installed it. :D GOG should improve their client though...

Works well with other games - so GOG and developer have to look into this. This is hardly something unique and while I don't think it will be as easy or streamlined as STEAM - several other games apply simple patches. BTW - the latest patch is 196 MB - guess they knew how to do a few things at least well.
That some changes to this unoptimized game will require HUGE installation files - sure i GET that seeing loads of comments on issues - but still - should be a smoother experience regardless of GOG or developer. Blaming each other is not a solution.

There must be something wrong with your install. I haven't had any downloads for BTIV since the 200 meg patch.

Well, don't mind me ranting on - I unistalled for now waiting for the game to get more stable. I'm not in a real hurry to play right now anyway. ;)

But I had the two hundred and then yesterday another big one and I just aborted and uninstalled. Perhaps this will solve it?
