so how many of you bought bards tale on gog merely for the classics, and you probbaly wont even play the new one?

I know thats practically me. (i might dable a little with the new one, and who knows i may play it more)
I bought the Bard's Tale on Steam (so I won't be getting this release since this one is exactly the same) because my old copy is next to impossible to get to play on Vista, and don't even bother on Win 7 and up. This was to play the new game, as I find it to be a very funny game. I'm a fan of the actor who plays the Bard, and his previous work on The Princess Bride.

Now ever since they updated the steam version (its updated to the same as the release on GOG) to the version originally used on the Iphone & Ipad i0S versions (which is a very cool way to play the game), it now includes the Apple IIGS versions of BT1 and BT2 which I've been wanting to legally get for a long time. Granted I still kinda like the interface on the Iphone slightly better. It's easier to exit the game, and portablity is nice.

BT3, if I ever get around to playing it, I'll probably stick to the Dos version from the original BT release, as I legally own it, and it it looks and sounds better than the Apple II version.
When I bought the boxed set it was for the old games, but I think the new one is very good too. I like games with some humor.
i played bards tale 1 for the first time in a long time recently, and i gotta tell you, it was more fun then i remembered. I rememberd to run away from barbarians with a level 1 party, but i didn't know to run away from large packs of dwarfs, so i tangoed with a dwarf party. luckily i rememberd how you can press z and summon a stone elemental to fight for you, so that helped. he absorbed a lot of the damage. great game though, lots of fun!
I dunno, I think the new one's pretty good. I'll play the classics after I'm finished with it to see how they compare.
Problems with Bard's Tale 1 -- and BT3.

I am playing the new Bard's Tale game and enjoying it. But I had really wanted to play the old games. I can begin them but not save or load games. I haven't seen another thread on this topic. BT 1 asks to load charactres party and says choose "disk 5, no 2." But after I do this, add a party, save the party, and adventure, I can't save the party. If I go back to the Adventures Guild and quit then I can't the party back for a new game. It makes me start over again with no experience gained. BT 3, which I had played many years ago from floppies on another machine, doesn't even do that. There is no load games option on either.

I must be missing something obvious. I would rather than uninstall, as I am fairly far along on the newest game.

Thanks for any ideas. [Do you get a load option?}
Me!

I just bought it (them); waiting for it (them) to install.

I bought the remake for console when it first came out. Didn't like the lack of options for the view or the practically top-down view, but I have fond memories of playing "Thief of Fate" in college on my Apple IIe. So yeah, I bought this deal strictly for the old games, but I'm sure I'll give the newer one another go and tell myself to overlook the horrible view.
Got just for classics, yes.

Have replayed (for the 4th time?) BT1, and also (for the second) bt2.

Now working on bt3, and this will be my first time.
So how do I change the resolution on this games?

Use the setup shortcut in the Start screen/Start menu or run Config\The Bard's Setup.exe in the installation folder.

Can it run in a window?

You can run the game in a window by adding a file (see Playing the game in a (borderless) window). It's also possible to run the ROMs in MESS or the like with a bit of extra effort (you'd then have more control over scaling etc.)

I bought the game for the originals since I remember enjoying them with my friends back the the 80s and early 90s both on Apple II and Tandy (my friend Nick (RIP) had a Tandy and we always played BT when I went to his house). I also got the PC version very early on and was able to play it 16 color VGA. I thought that was the version with this one, but word has it this is the Apple IIGS version. That explains why it looks different (and quite a bit better) than I remember.
The new game, however, is also really good. With a little beer, I was laughing so hard my sides hurt. It is one of the best comedy RPG I've ever played, with the most good jokes per scene of any. It's like Shao-Lin Soccer meets Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance.

I bought it just for the originals.

I never played any of the Bard's Tale games. I wasn't even born yet when they came out. But I like the olde strategy role playing games. I am happy to get to try them. So far they are pretty cool, but I still have lots to play.

As for the new one, I'm not too sure I'll play through it. It seems to rely on it's humor for the selling point, and it's humor has been done a thousand times before, such as "when I talk about my sword, I'm really talking about my penis!". Yeaaahh... no thanks. Now, if I could choose my own path of humor, THEN there is a game worth playing. Plus, I cannot be a woman in that game. A game for the computer out in 2004 and I cannot play a lady? Please.

So yeah, I just got it for the olde Bard's Tale games. Never played them before, and I must say, they're quite good.
Yeah, I got this set for the classic games, but I'll probably play the new one at some point too, I watched the first part of an LP on it and it looks funny at least, though it does kind of irk me that they reused the same name for something that's not even a remake/reboot.

Edit: Also I wish we could get the DOS versions here too. Even if the first one at least is supposedly bugged up some. And Bard's Tale Construction Set, too.
