01kipper: Apparently there were "business-related" reasons for the lack of a GOG update...

source: https://forums.inxile-entertainment.com/viewtopic.php?p=193391#p192790
Yeah, I saw that post too. I registered on their forums for the sole purpose of bumping that thread and letting them know that we are still waiting. I'm unable to play the game right now, as I'm getting some nasty artifacting under Linux. It's supposedly fixed in the new build according to a Steam thread that I found.
Well, I finally actually played this game (Remastered and Resnarkled) - too bad hasn't yet (never?) come to GOG for a DRM-free experience. Gameplay reminded me very much of playing a summoner class in Geneforge, except with much more levity. I ended up with 60,000 silver in the end, without ever adding to charisma stat (is this stat completely useless, then?). All that money, and repetitive gameplay sans the rewarding nature of say a Diablo or Borderlands. I only ever used artifacts (healing) in the Mannanan battle (170 left over when done game) - too easy? Admittedly, I only played it on "normal".

Is it like the attached pic? If so, I'd really love to finally have this patch here. I hoped that the renewed attention from the bt1-3 remaster would get this issue resolved, but now it's just been pushed back a few pages in the subforum.

And now yet another Bard's Tale game, and all it does is bury this thread again (in spite of a few posts in the release thread for the new game). Renewed attention is obviously ineffective. I guess we aren't getting a patch, ever. I realized I dismissed the patch in my first post in this thread, but that's because Linux wasn't even mentioned at all in the announcement. Now I would like it, as having this broken game on my system has been bugging me for years, and maybe this patch actually works.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. Yes, as I recall it looks similar. Unfortunately it seems that we're not going to be getting the patch any time soon, if ever. Clearly we're not a priority for inXile.

To be fair, the delay between my post and yours was only a month, whereas the delay between your post and mine was 5 months. I probably also should have explained that the black shadow in the lower-right is what I was talking about, which is there all the time and gets worse in some places (including the two extra lines in this pic), sometimes obscuring the entire screen. Come to think of it, the game no longer loads my old saves, either (crashes), so I guess searching for a change in my system was silly of me anyway: it was much more likely a game "upgrade" that I blindly installed and forgot about. I have a procedure for that, but it never fails that the only games that I fail to execute the full procedure on are the ones that end up broken.

I guess complaining on the forum about it like this isn't going to help, anyway. I hate opening support tickets, especially on a game that's been broken for so long, but I guess that's the only way anything will get done about it. Who knows, maybe gog even has the previous, non-broken version still lying around somewhere. Maybe some time next week, if I feel up to it.
I just looked at the wine-4.0.1 changelog, and noticed a fix for the longstanding inability to play this game on wine. Sure enough, it works now, after the usual movie playing issues are taken care of. Better than the Linux native game. Thus, I guess I don't care any more if inXile ever gets off their asses and gives gog the patch. Thanks for nothing, yet again, inXile. I guess I shouldn't be reporting this, as it is just another excuse for inXile to once again spurn gog Linux users.
Nearly 2 years later and the GOG release is still missing the update. Brilliant.
And still nothing
Well once again I buy a GOG game simply because it says that it works on Linux, only to find out it doesn't, and that the Steam version (who has basically the same price, discount and all) has updates from _years_ ago that fixes the problems I'm finding. Frustrating to say the least, maybe I'll have to start using Steam because it's already ridiculous.
Just got this mail:
It’s just about time for The Bard’s Tale IV: Director’s Cut!
Included in this email is a link to claim your GOG BT4:DC Deluxe Edition Upgrade Key. Once the game is available in your library on August 27th, you can use this key to upgrade your version of The Bard’s Tale IV from Standard to Deluxe.
Thank you again for backing The Bard’s Tale IV and have fun exploring the all new features in this Director’s Cut.
Was this a mistake or what? Looks like the code has been used already. I only have the Standard edition though.

Even worse - they released it for Xbox One and Switch in 2020, too.

Very annoying that GoG's version isn't updated.

lol !
Pretty crazy this never got the free update on GOG. I thought InXile was better than that.
I'm still waiting too. <_<
