... I hate you for not updating this game on this platform, I won't buy this game after all as support for gog users are non-existent for this buggy featureless mess in comparison to the steam version, I'm tired of devs that ignore gog users!

IF however, this is yet another neglected changlog post and they've already updated to the "Second Sight Update" version, then I apologize for my rage, and it's back into my cart as that was the only reason why I was going to purchase it to begin with!

I'm "stuck" in Harkyn's Castle. Five two-hours sessions -- and somewhere between wave 70 and the end I get a "Fatal error" and the game has crashed yet another time. Once I actually reached wave 96, and hope was glimmering in my eyes -- but NO.....
I've not heard of this problem on the Steam community, so is this a "GoG-only" "feature"?
Any fixes planned -- I don't think I'm in for yet another attempt.

Sailed through Harkyn's--GOG version. Likely something on your end. Try turning off your resident programs (in the sys tray, etc.) and see what happens. Generally, I have found that when I can't find reports of a problem I am having on the respective game forums it means something is screwed at my end. I start looking--and then find it--every time, fortunately.

You've got a saved-game close to where it's crashing, I'm sure--so as you turn off resident programs or shut them down, reload the save and try again. If no one else is reporting the exact problem--then it's definitely not a game bug--but something is running on your end--possibly running out of ram--could be any number of local things.

Just thought I should add I am having this same issue... not just with one tough battle (like the Mangar fight..kept getting to the 6th round aannnnd "fatal error" !crash!) Now it happens with the palladin fights. Clearly occurs with the bright flashy effects..ie spells, palladin buffs, and so forth. Also this only became a problem for me after the latest patch. A few times, the graphics have wavered at that climatic moment, but whew managed to stabilise. I have literally learned to wait out each of my attacks and buffs so as not to overload.

Because this solved my crashing issue so far:
In case anyone is searching this issue currently, I wanted to share that BT4 includes the option to change your setting from full screen to borderless window or just windowed. You simply open 'Options' on the opening page... or anytime in game (I assume, since I open 'Options' for various reasons while playing the game), and the settings for display are near the top of the 'Graphics' tab. There is a drop-down menu for the three choices.
I hope that helps speed up someone searching for the answer for crash issues!

[I suspect that my graphics card 'optiimizes' my game by making the graphics at ultra and high. Rather than sort out the individual settings, I am choosing for now to use borderless window.]

Just saw this. I just did a playthrough on Twitch using a GTX 1060 6gb with a Ryzen 5 2600 chip, 16gb of RAM. It started crashing when I changed the graphics from "Ultra" to "High" because I had some stuttering from my old hard drive I was trying to get rid of (Did not know it was the hard drive)

I set it back to "Ultra" and the game stopped crashing. It should be noted I was running it in 1280x720 windowed mode (I have one monitor and wanted to see chat on twitch) - just a heads up should you do more troubleshooting.

I have these wave fights crashes too, Harkyn's castle tends to crash somewhere between wave 10-30 (not sure about precise number, as after few waves it stops displaying the wave number).

And the whole logic of end-turn seems to be either weirdly designed or IMHO broken (if I end my turn, and the enemy wave gets killed by my counter-attacks, the new wave is inserted and I get the control as if new turn started, but all/most cooldowns are still same, so I have like 8 opportunity points, but almost no character has any action available and I have to end turn again and hope this time some enemy will survive their turn, so I get also correct reset of cooldowns).

It's the current version "Update 2" for Linux (file: the_bard_s_tale_iv_director_s_cut_update_2_33033.sh )

Playing on "Intel HD Graphics 530", with everything low/off, it's still slideshow, but seems to work most of the time, except few random crashes after load, and few crashes in battles usually at turn end/start or start of particular animation/effect.

And sometimes the combat gets stuck for few tens of seconds (20-50s) for no obvious reason (the engine is running and scene is rendering/animating, but particular fight/counter/move action is delayed, like if the game is running through millions of scenarios and trying to calculate something in background thread). At some points I was at first suspecting AI, like when the single enemy get stunned and has full opportunity points, that maybe it's the AI state confused and doing some running in circles without decision until it hits some safety counter, but it does happen sometimes mid-way into the chain of already ongoing events, so maybe it's still animation/graphics issue, some race condition somewhere maybe (but usually the game will continue after the delay normally, I had only about 1-2 hard freezes including rendering during ~100h of gameplay ... these delays in combat happen about once per 3-8 combats).

Is there's some good built-in way to collect crash info from the executable in linux, or should I just start it from terminal and check if get some console output? hmm.. maybe I should try the latter any way (I'm launching it through desktop icon, so no console output available normally)

But about the particular crash in castle fight -> I made it through right after I posted the rant here. I just switched from borderless window to regular window and opted for the smallest possible size, and made sure all gfx configs were on "low" or "off" (had textures and models on "medium" before) and I managed to beat all 99 waves. Surprisingly even the wave number info kept appearing much longer, got lost around wave 48 IIRC (but I also adjusted my game style a bit to have fewer wave changes during enemy's turn by the counter-attacks - but few of them happened in earlier waves, and the wave numbers were shown, but once they disappeared first time, they never come back).

So putting somewhat less strain on the gfx part made it more stable (generally my system is super stable, but I don't play 3D games too much, so ... not conclusive).

Still no music. Bug reported it twice. Nothing.

The original non DC version worked fine, music was one of the things I loved the most about it.

DC version just seems dead and dull without it. And nothing seems to be able to fix it.

I considered re-buying it on steam to see if that fixes it. But urgh.

58 hours in this and now it's just dead and silent. Store page even mocks me with the new tracks in the DC version I have to go onto spotify to listen to.

I've reported it multiple times. Tried to attach saves but kept getting "upload took too long" which I assume is zendesk for "We set the max file size limit lower than the average save game file."

I have hours of footage but it's so weird and inconsistent it would be hard to show exactly when it screws up without also at the same time instantly pinning down the cause.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_Ta0wADmpI At 32 mins 30 seconds in that video I arrive on the isles, the music starts up, I run into the lady, it stops and never comes back. Unless I leave the isles and arrive by boat again(it has to be the boat). It's just so many small odd things, occasionally ambiance and music starts up like it's supposed to but it rarely gets more than a few seconds of playing before something happens that turns it off.

You can hear it in combat too. The whole "Combat tempo" stuff that's supposed to make the song go up and down with the pace of the combat is playing, but not the base song that's supposed to be going in the background. So it just feels so damn weird.

In the later videos I just started playing the soundtrack in the background off Spotify.
