I can live with it. GOG pushes the patches (if at all) only a few day´s after they get available on the net. And I do enjoy the fact that I dont have to google them up myself and that they are safe. And beeing confronted with a lot of work on the weekends, I totally understand that people like to have a few days off.
Have a steam account as well, but whenever possible I buy my games at gog.... your doing ok guys!

Scroll up and read my earlier post... it already exists, but GOG seems to be cherry picking which developers get on it, which I can only assume that means they're thoroughly testing it before opening the flood gates

I read your post. And the two posts where you remind people of that post.

I dont care whether the system exists. It needs to be used, too. So some additional show of interest in the feature probably helps.

Sorry... I just keep seeing people asking for it and I'm only pointing out that it already exists... GOG getting devs on, yah, that seems to be rolling out really slow

I noticed during the patching for D: OS2 via Galaxy, all of the many game patches for the game right after its release came through Galaxy at the same time they came through Steam--because I'd see the "patch is out!" posts on Steam a few minutes after they were posted, fire up Galaxy, and the game would begin updating! I commended Larian at the time for efficiently updating though Galaxy at the same time it updated through Steamworks. The two services work the same way--the developer controls the patching through Galaxy channels, just like with Steam channels, cutting GOG itself out of the loop. Hence--no more delays from Gog are necessary unless you are someone who doesn't like Galaxy for whatever reason and who insists on the old, slow, manual file method of game updates. I use the manuals only for my backup copy storage now. Almost forgot: *many* of the D:OS2 patches came through Galaxy on the weekends, IIRC...;)

Another example is that some people thought that the No Man's Sky Experimental updates weren't available through GOG--only through Steam--but they are--you just have to know how to set up your Galaxy settings on the NMS Galaxy page and you are done. HG does a good job there, too.

So I wrote this morning somewhere in the InXile forums and asked politiely if they'd kindly get around to using the GOG update channels to release the Galaxy patch, hey?....;) Kind of disappointed in InXile either not knowing how to do it or else not caring whether they did it with Galaxy, etc. It's up to the dev to learn how to do it and to get it done.

Yes to this. There are several other games I have in Galaxy that also get updates and patches as quickly as they hit Steam as well... Kingdom Come Deliverance, Hand of Fate 2, Frostpunk and the Pillars games come to mind... we can only speculate that it's either GOG only using a handful of dev testers for now, or it's devs not being aware it's available to them or they just don't want to bother and keep doing it the way they've been doing it here on GOG with submitting updates and letting GOG do what they have to... whatever the case, I had really hoped as anticipated as this game was and them knowing that a large portion of their backers would choose GOG as their platform, that they would have fully embraced all the options they have to service the game here on GOG (and add Galaxy specific features)... it's really unfortunate this critical initial patch wasn't here for the weekend when I'm sure a lot of us were planning to dive into it being off of work

Inxile on Twitter said they pushed the patch to GOG at the same time as Steam. They said they'd ping them again, but GOG should also not be relying on Galaxy enabled devs to release their own patches if the majority of devs are not Galaxy enabled for patching.

I understand the point that Galaxy is relatively new, but GOG is not, nor is its parent company. Having a skeleton staff on the weekends is fine, but you should be able to push patches 24/7 if you are a game service provider who wants to compete with Steam.

I love GOG, I love its regulars (mostly) I love its streamers, I love its parent, and I love how it made retro games relavent again. I do not, and never have liked its patching process and how it just kind of disappears on the weekends, even immediately after a brand new AAA game launches.

Whether you feel InXile is AAA is personal opinion. They've earned that right imo.

And that's the frustrating part... the patch is done, and had GOG put them on the new build system that several of the devs here are on, Galaxy users would've been rocking that update right now... feels a lot like when a package you're waiting on gets stuck at the FedEx hub on a Friday and you just... wait

And in this case, no one knows if inXile knows about the new build system or not... if they don't, then it's up to GOG to get them onboarded and there'd be nothing they can do to get it done... Can't push an update to a system they don't even know exists... from the sound of inXile's response on Twitter, doesn't sound like they know about it

First off, Galaxy isn't new--it's been in development for years--and it's been officially out of beta status for well over a year--GOG is officially using it now for game delivery. Everyone who distributes through GOG--every developer--is automatically "Galaxy enabled"--and that is how Steam does it--the devs push the patch through on their developer channel. Same for Galaxy. The page for BT4 on GOG Galaxy is fully setup (under settings) for game patches--even beta patches! InXile has no excuse, imo, for not knowing how to do it--I am in shock, really...;) What a boneheaded amateur thing to do--I thought they knew what they were doing...?

Again, I received many D:OS2 Galaxy updates over the weekend--so it really makes no sense at all because the *developer*--not GOG pushes out the patches. You should understand this is the main reason for implementing Galaxy in the first place--so that it isn't critical for GOG to be involved in the patching process as it was under the old manual-update system (a system which you will note Steam has *never* had and never will have, although GOG will keep the manual system.)

But the proof positive that this falls on inXile and not on GOG is this: in the Steam forum inXile released a patch thread in the BT4 forum. Do you see such a file from inXile here in this forum? I don't--so I think that's pretty conclusive.

Not trying to begin a silly argument--but the way I describe this is the way I've seen it work month after month and for several recent game releases on Galaxy. I think BT4 is AAA material, no question--what a fantastic buy! But this is in inXile's fault 100% it appears to me--not only have they not even tried to patch the game using Galaxy distribution--they have made no comment on the matter whatsoever in these forums! It's as if we don't exist and they have never sold the game through GOG. Again, your explanation would suffice for manual patching in the old days, but Galaxy has officially changed all of that at GOG, obviously.

Edit: consider this as well. InXile released the game on Tuesday morning, which gave the company Tues, Wednesday, Thursday and all day Friday up until the patch was released at midnight on Friday--to make arrangements to deliver the patch via Galaxy. Eh? Makes sense to me and it is what I would have done. But not what inXile did. As much as I do like this game--it's just not very professional, is it?

for me, I can wait for 1-2 days longer for the patch. I just play another game in the meantime.
In a month from now, this does not matter anymore.
But as said, I find it much worse that there are no achievements.
I will not buy any game on GOG again, when they have no achievements here but they have on Steam.
This really sucks for me.

sidenote: also bought StarControl:Origins (which I now play in the meantime), which HAS achievements on GOG, but they are still buggy. *sigh*
