Re-spec is a boolean... a switch... if you don't make use of it, why would you have a problem with it?

Hey all, currently there's no way to respec after many players objected to this feature during the beta period. That said, we are certainly keeping an eye towards any gameplay suggestions you have for consideration in future updates.

I think the problem is that the beta testers were not representative of the general population who's interested in the game.

Specifically:
* The fact that you need to pay extra to beta test the game ensures that the beta testers will tend to be hardcore players; in particular, you are not going to get novice or casual players (or those who've never played an RPG before) to be beta testers this way.
* Hardcore gamers have been known to object to features that make the game more accessible to less experieneed players; this includes features like being able to fix mistakes in character builds. (Another example could arise in the classic Mega Man series; in Mega Man 1-7, 9, and 10, you don't recover weapon energy on death, so if you die while trying to kill a boss with its weakness, you don't get a second chance (and this is even worse for a couple Wily stage bosses in Mega Man 2; you can get a near softlock in the final level because of this). Another example I could give is Final Fantasy 3, where there was apparently intended to be a save point near the end of the game, but that was scrapped.)
* Therefore, you have a set of beta testers who is biased toward the sort of gamers who object to this sort of feature. If the beta testing group were more diverse in terms of ability and hardcoreness (for lack of a better term), perhaps the feedback would have been more balanced, and the ability to respec would not have been removed.
It is annoying that there is no way to re-spec. I miss-clicked on my Practitioner once, so now the build is kinda broken. So you have to save before leveling up every time. Simply just annoying.

I don't need a respec option, but I would like to see an undo button during level-up, so miss-clicks wouldn't be such a problem.

Yes, that would work great for me too.
Someone made a command line tool for re specing characters, see: https://forums.inxile-entertainment.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=19515 Back up your saves first of course, you never know.

And yeah, the absence of an undo button on the level-up screen is baffling.
Just chiming in that I too, would be happy with a simple "Undo" button on the level up screen that becomes uninteractive after you exit the screen.

People say you guys (InXile) don't listen to fans. The problem is, you listen too much to your beta testers and not enough to the people who want to buy your games.
I don't mind that there is no re-spec. If it was included it should at least be fairly expensive in my opinion. You get them tokens to hire mercenaries at the guild anyway. If your character is really borked you can just build another at the guild.
Thanks for the feedback, guys. We appreciate the discussion. I can't say if a respec option is coming down the pipe, but we're definitely listening and devoting our efforts to the things we can most effectively address.
I don't think we should have on-the-fly respec but it would be nice to stop by the adventurer's guild and pay some gold for a respec.
Maybe add a option to use the Mercenary tokens for Respec, so the item has usage even if you don't need/want mercs
