Hi,

I hope the studio that did the AE is still working on it, because I've encountered two major bugs so far and I've only completed two puzzles (the spiders and the telescope).

First bug happens when I try to access the menu after starting the game. The menu screen appears but my mouse cursor disappears, and I can't return to the game screen by pressing Escape. I have to kill the .exe from the Task Manager, and this happens every time. The Save/Load/Continue etc. text is all grey, though, implying that maybe the screen hasn't loaded fully.

The second bug is at the maze puzzle in one of the upstairs rooms. I can look at the mat on the floor, and the icon turns into the pulsating brain, but if I click on the mat the game crashes.

I am really unsure what I can do from my side to make these bugs go away, as I launch the game from the GOG launcher and I assume the files have been tweaked to run properly on modern systems. If there is something I can try, I am all ears, devs.

I must admit I am a little disappointed so far. While I like the visual overhaul and the smoothness of the game, and I am a big fan of the original (even though I have not progressed beyond the microscope puzzle in any of the attempts I've made at a playthrough), I had hoped for something a little more polished from the 25th anniversary edition.

I really hope Mojo Touch can keep polishing and fixing it.
I can confirm both bugs on a Windows 10 Pro x64.
I see the same bugs!

To access the save-game menu, etc., from the game screen, use only the ESC key--do not use the mouse--I've found that (ESC) works 80%-90% of the time, if not always--can't recall exactly right now. If I use the mouse button (LMB) to press the game menu icon (upper left) I see this giant white mouse pointer (morphed from the smaller pointer) for a second or two, and then the entire game locks up completely--only way out is to CTRL-ALT-DEL, then open the Task manager (Windows 10x64)--as soon as the Task Manager opens then control of the game is returned to me and I can continue--until the next such incident, rinse and repeat. The only positive out of it is that I can keep on playing without restarting, but only if I follow the instructions with the Task Manager, as I've written them above. It's definitely bugged--and it's the mouse interface that is bugged. To that end:

*My advice is to use the "Classic Interface" for the mouse--stay away from the "enhanced interface" for the mouse--for two reasons. The Classic mouse interface consists of the game's original skeleton hand cursor--it works much better than than the "enhanced"--which is not enhanced at all--in any way that I can see. So use the Classic Mouse cursor, and it not only looks and plays better than enhanced, I had a lot fewer crashes through the mouse interface with it, too!

Frankly, the game has a lot of promise! It's much better than a couple of the really negative reviews written about it would make one believe...;) But a lot of polishing work needs to be done on the game's mouse interaction. Sound and Music are very good--I was very pleased--much, much better than I can get out of the original--well the Scummvm version. Framerate performance is also much better than I can get out of my Scummvm version.

The Graphic Options choices, though, leave a lot to be desired. There is no way to pick resolution, although I noticed that the fullscreen setting seems to scale up to my 4k desktop alright--but there's no way to choose precise pixel resolution, wrapper/shader options, etc. The game might be improved enormously with better graphic config options--I know they are there--the options--but they are all hidden from the player, which is too bad. I might be able to make a better choice for my hardware than the game automatically makes itself.
Switched to classic interface, still both issues.

PROVISIONAL FIX to maze puzzle:
Enter on it, it will pop-up a screen and the game will hang. Press Alt+Tab and hold Alt, then close the window without name where you can see the instructions to solve the puzzle with the top-right X (as seen on screenshot). Alt-Tab to the game again.

Same here, sad to see it :(

Make sure that all of the entries that I've marked with an * above are changed in your saved games\t7g.ini file to match mine (you do not put in the * of course...;)), then save the settings. Run the game and once you get into the game use the ESC key (not the mouse cursor!) to bring up the main menu to save, load or quit, etc. This doesn't 100% eliminate the crash when opening the menu, but it ~90% works for me--useful until they get this fixed...;)

I forgot to mention yesterday that I made these changes, but wasn't sure if they were necessary or not--it appears they are!
This is getting to be ridiculous...;) Scratch the above advice--it worked fine yesterday. Isn't working today!...;) Game's got some *bugs*...;)

Here's what is working today:

Leave all T7G.ini settings at their defaults (I still prefer the classic ui over the 'enhanced')

Instead, open properties of your T7G game shortcut (create a shortcut sent to your desktop direct from the T7G.exe--bypassing the Galaxy-opening shortcut), open the compatibility tab, select change settings for all users, select Run as administrator, and select Disable High DPI scaling and check the box for "Application"--this tells Windows to honor the scaling requested by the application or game and use it when opening screens instead of what the Win10 desktop is set to use. Fire up the game.

I've opened the game several times now with these settings and have successfully used the cursor to open the options screen--also several times--without a single crash. Appears to be working as designed. Now, it's time to see how long *this* will last...;) If you don't hear back from me in this thread, consider that this is still working...!

OK--that's it--I officially give up. The mouse interface is so buggy that every time I get it working correctly for an indeterminate period, it always reverts and the game continues to crash when opening the menu screen via the mouse cursor. Works correctly for awhile and then stops and crashes. I'm done here until the game dev patches this thing!

Confirmed on the menu bug.

Also finding that the speed of moving between screens is not smooth -it's slow / fast / slow. The original was a smooth, slow transition between views, it contributed to the spooky atmosphere, the slow deliberate movement.
I'm assuming those transitions are processor dependant rather than frame rate locked - feel like they should be frame rate locked.

Yes, I tried with vsync on (forced) and off (also forced through my drivers.) Made no difference at all to the crash bug. What's been done is some kind of weird combination between the scummvm version and "Mojo"'s (the developer) own code. He's locked away almost all the configuration options so that we can't really get in and finagle config options as we could in the regular Scummvm version. Even so, I could get the original DOS version, which used to be the version GOG sold, to run fine under Windows 10, but even the scummvm version allowed for a lot more configuration than this!

There are definitely some nice improvements Mojo has made, but if I can't access the menu without crashing the game, what does it matter?
I've emailed Mojo Touch's support about these bugs, in case they don't yet know about them.

I suspect they do, though - a representative was quick to answer my question about the microscope puzzle in the AE so I presume they're lurking on these boards and have seen this thread, and are just lying low for now.

If they get back to me with anything useful, I'll post it here.
Hi All,

Can you try latest version (1.0.2), change log here: https://www.gog.com/forum/the_7th_guest_series/version_102_is_out_now

And also try disabling GOG’s In-game Overlay.

Thanks much! Yep installed the 1.02 version, and provided I started a new game, the ESC/GUI bug seems quashed atm! (The ESC bug seems tied to savegames from 1.0 for some reason.) Also, the game is much better integrated--runs far far better than it ran on the former Scummvm version. I remember the DOS version, vaguely, which *I think* I managed to run under Win10x64--but the Anniversary Edition runs *much* better! If I encounter something else, I'll get back to you!
I can confirm that these bugs have been fixed in the v1.02 patch, but I had start a new game as the original issues persisted in my original autosave.

Thanks, devs, for continuing to work on it. I am very happy with my umpteenth purchase of this great game. :)
The game works I can save but when I try to load a save the game hangs.

I deleted the saves, disable cloud saves, uninstalled the game, reinstalled, disabled ingame overlay.

Nothing works.
