As an adventure game fan, these Tex Murphy games look pretty interesting, but as I know next to nothing about them I'm looking for advice as to which one I should purchase.
As I know next to nothing about them I'm not really interested in purchasing them all, I'd rather buy just the one and if I enjoy that one then maybe look to buy others. So with that in mind, which one do you suggest I go for? Chronologically? Or the most recent? Or the 'best', whatever that may be in your opinion.
Cheers.
Well, if you only want one, then I'd go for Over a Killing Moon :)
It's my personal favorite AND there was never any problems gettting it to run.

IN uakm tex played a complete moron, in pandora things changed & he become just a plain moron ......LOL
IMy favourite is pandora, other people like UAKM & overseer. I think pandora has the best story & puzzels. God I remember sitting up to early hours in the morning trying to not to be killed off & I couldn't stop till I passed that part. Start with UAKM & then progress to the others.
if you like UAKM you will be blown away with pandora.
Buy them all and play them chronologically.
Most people got started with Under A Killing Moon, which is a pretty good introduction to the series.
Yeah, I recommend Under a Killing Moon too. Just finished it for the first time a few weeks ago, really good!
Cheers all, I bought Under a Killing Moon!
Way to go and enjoy :)
buy uakm then pandora then overseer, theyre the greatest series ever :-)
I'm sure you won't be able to stop until you've played them all. :D
So...
Tex Murphy 1&2
UAKM
Pandora Directive
Overseer
this is an order one should play?
UAKM
Pandora Directive
Overseer
TM 1&2
In my opinion.
Under a Killing Moon and Pandora are, collectively, universally considered the best. UAKM will enhance your understanding of Pandora, so I say play that, and then PD.
The first two games aren't as tightly connected. Except for a few vague references, they won't enhance your understanding all that much. UAKM and Pandora are set in the same neighborhood and most of the cast overlaps, so those two are more of a pair.
THE PANDORA DIRECTIVE was the only computer game nominated by the Software Publishers’ Association for its “Best Overall Multimedia Product” award. View the trailer: http://www.microsoft.com/games/texmurphy/pandoradirective/

First post...
And this is an old thread, but what the hell?
Personally, I would start off with Martian Memorandum. It's the first Tex Game I played so many darn years ago. In fact I bought it second hand at a Goodwill for $3. That was a couple years before UAKM came out and.. Oh... I can ramble on... anyway...
I say start with Martian Memorandum for 3 reasons:
1. Its a good intro to Tex and what he does. It does lack a lot of the humor found in the latter games, but it does have its share of laughs!
2. It's a fairly straight forward (KQ/SQ type) adventure game. There is one or two action gaming parts that are tricky, but overall its easy to get into... If you don't mind reading.
3. $5.99!!
Also at the beginning of UAKM there is a nice reference to the Martian Memorandum case, which I jumped up and down with excitement as it was being told. It's small, sure, but I got that nostalgic goosebump feeling after seeing it.
You might just skip Mean Streets considering that Overseer is basically a (much better and coherent) remake of it. And if you want to go by that logic, then start with Overseer (skip the very end seen with Chelsea) and go into Martian Memorandum, then Under a Killing Moon, and finally to Pandora Directive.
