Whenever I try to run Overseer, the program crashes--or more precisely, half crashes. I get the first-run menu that lets me choose various settings, but no matter which settings I choose, after I approve them, the program seems to crash in that there are no graphics or sound, but the program is obviously still running as it remains active on my task bar (clicking brings up a few seconds of black screen) and if I run the task manager, I can force a shutdown of the program.

I'm running Vista.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I have a idea, your running vista....vista is so old now I can't remember what issues we had with vista.
right click the exe file & run as administrator for a start. Are you playing on the gog dvd version.

what graphic card are you running and how old are your drivers.

Everything is old on my machine. If it ain't broke and it does most of what you want it to do, why buy a new one, after all?

Vista is my machine's original OS, and the graphics card is the original, as well (a seven-year-old NVIDIA GT 240M). The drivers are very out of date due to a strange problem wherein the computer is happy to use the graphics card to run program graphics, but does not actually recognize, somehow, that the card is installed for update purposes. (That sounds like more of a problem that it's actually proven itself to be. Granted, I don't play many graphic-heavy games, but I've still only had trouble with Gray Matter, which is still playable on my machine, and the Grim Fandango rerelease, which is not.) At any rate, the card may be a bit old, but it's still ten years younger than Overseer, and so, I assume, young enough to be able to handle the game's graphics.

Admin settings don't seem to have an effect one way or the other, and I'm trying to run Gog's version of the game.

do you have on board video as well as the graphic card, as windows tends to use the on board rather than the dedicated card. if you have both you can setup the nvidia in the control panel under manage 3d settings & add overseer exe file . install this file https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21372568/ffdshow_rev4500_20130106.exe
and make sure you setup to use mpeg2 decoder.

The 3D settings seem to be too primitive for any real adjustment, but thanks for the idea.
