Does anyone know why GoG doesn't package up the Tex games with the OS-X version of DOSBox and officially support the Mac? It seems like a HUGE market they are missing out on.

I would like this to happen as well. There are a number of games here I would buy and play, but I want to play them on my mac. I am definitely hoping the new Tex runs glitch free on a mac. I can't wait to see it on my larger monitor. )

As long as its dos games you can probably extract and install dosbox for mac and use that to run the apps.

It's kind of a hassle to get it working on a mac but definitely do-able. I have Windows installed on VirtualBox (free). I downloaded the mean streets installer, installed it to windows, then copied the install folder back over to my mac. Mean Streets appears to run fun. I haven't tried Martian Memorandum yet. I'm not sure why GOG uses its own installer, but once it runs its business, the game runs fine.

Alternatively, if you don't have a spare copy of Windows, you can always check out Wine Bottler (also free). I haven't tried it but there's no reason it shouldn't work with the older tex games. I'll let you know as I progress through the series - again :)

I'd be happy with just a zipfile of the game contents. I've played & completed UAKM & Pandora Directive (and several other DOS games) using Boxer, which is a pretty nice DOSBox frontend. Only annoying part is installing them on a Windows VM just to get the goodies out of GOG's installer.

I know there are package extracters on windows that can open extractable exe files. You maybe should try to find something like that.

Oh, I know it's doable... it's just an issue of ease-of-use and a lot of people aren't up to using WINE to run the windows installer and transfer everything over to a Mac DOSBox.

And now, it looks like you don't have to... The 4 DOSBox-based tex games were included in the OS-X update earlier this month. Directly downloadable and useable now.

Thanks, GoG. The market for Tex, per se, probably isn't huge. But the number of gamers who remember GoG games and have a mac now? I'd bet it's a pretty substantial percentage. I could be wrong, of course.
