keviny01: hucklebarry, one of your complaints is that the dialog choices are not clear about what paths they lead you to. I'm not sure being clear is a good thing there. Being vague is better in conveying the uncertainties in life, which is the whole point of Tex's story. Names like "A Double Life", "To Have or Have Not", etc. are, of course, references to film noir, which is a big part of the Tex universe, so those names had to be used. Vague but tongue-in-cheek descriptions for dialog choices are also a trademark of Tex Murphy games so they cannot be anything else. I think the developers just want you to experience the unpredictability in life. They did the same thing two games ago, in The Pandora Directive. Asking them for the exact ways to go a certain path is like asking them for the solution to the game. You just have to wait for someone to write a complete walkthrough. In short, vague dialog choices and path descriptions are not shortcomings, but strengths, of the game

As many others have said, it is not overly difficult to reunite Tex and Chelsee. I was on the "To Have or Have Not" path (the "not quite Chelsee" path) for a while before getting on the "Somewhere I'll Find Her" path that took me to Chelsee. So it seems it's possible to change path mid-game also.
I didn't know you could change back to the "Somewhere I'll Find You" path once you are in the "To Have or Have Not" path, I will be careful when playing that ;)

On Day 1, after the conversation with Louie I was at the "Somewhere I'll Find You" path, that seemed to me the right way to go and I kept checking after every meaningful conversation that I am still on that path. In the end that paid off.

I suggest you start a casual game and try our suggestions and skip all the puzzles, you can rush through this game in about an hour or two (I'm pretty much a speed runner in it now), and enjoy the Chelsee path and what it has to offer.

I too found that finding and staying on the Chelsee path, was INCREDIBLY important. So I checked time and time again that my pathing STAYED on the "Someday I'll find you" trail. I followed the same guide that Mat listed here. The only thing I can suggest is to double check using the escape key to find out the name of the path you are on. If you fall off the the path after a series of conversations you will know if you check. Then you can go back to a previous autosave game and get back on.

As far as any "Random" phrases or dialogue choices that throw you off the path, I don't see it. When Chelsee is an option in a conversation choose her. Anything else will kick you off. The Beach house scene you have to be cautious on, just be a good guy, and stay loyal, you should be fine. The menu option is your friend. It will tell you if you've gone astray.

In addition to what was mentioned, I did a play test here myself to ensure there is definitely nothing wrong with the game. I can confirm that A path is achievable by following the instructions indicated by many users in this thread. The original poster must be doing something incorrectly.

Here are the steps:

Louie Conversation 1 - Pick: "What happened to Chelsee"
Danwicz conversation 1 - Pick: "Press for information about Chelsee"
Taylor conversion, post Mojo memory stick decryption - pick: "Stay true to Chelsee"
Resort Scene with Taylor and Ariel - pick: "Stay true to your girl" when taking to Ariel. Then Pick "Choose Chelsee" when talking to Taylor. When Taylor leaves, pick "Be respectful to Chelsee" to conclude with Ariel.

You know what though: I can kinda see how you might find these dialogue choices "ambiguous" and "arbitrary"... what, with no references to Chelsee in them what so ever! :P (I'm only kidding with ya!).

I totally agree with these comments, once you get past the last conversation with the girls you will stay on that path.

The thing is i think (with huck) that the system is a bit harsh and i can understand that, if you picked chelsea like 4 times but only forgot 1 time to pick Chelsea by some sentence you didn't even know it would take you off that path.
I thought i picked all the (5 mentioned) Chelsea options but i still got the bad ending, and yes i wasn't happy with it either.
But this isn't by far the only game that has some sort of annoying bit to it.
Same goes for the score, it's not a real score like in the previous games, so you think to look at every single item in your inventory, the pictures of people, etc, but you would still get 5 lamps as a score if you missed out on a few i guess.

Since when has been maintaining a relationship been a walk in the park? Just sayin'... Lol. From what I recall it is exponentially easier than Pandora to maintain the Chelsee path. That said, it is achievable, and I think it is a good think it is at least a little challenging to do so. Especially considering according to the writer the Chelsee path is not canon.

it's pretty cool how they did it this time as far as the paths, travel a different path & you see different locations & not just a different ending.

Cubase: In order for the Chelsee path to NOT be canon, a sequel needs to exist - Tex Murphy 7 confirmed! :)

plumgas: I actually prefer the way Pandora did it as it had some major differences to the plot depending on your path (people lived and died based on the kind of person you are), I'm kind of sad the decisions on Tesla didn't make more of an impact on the storyline.
As for the extra locations, it seems to me that the Ariel path is the most probable to be canon if you take this route -
1) Choose Taylor on Day 3, you get to know more about Tex from the Beach Resort
2) Switch to Ariel on Day 7, you get to see the Blue Dragon place as well (with more history)
So ending on the Ariel path you saw all the important locations...

The Chelsee path has the shrine, but it doesn't provide much backstory (not that there is anything wrong with fan service, especially after *16* years!)

I just accomplished this too. It was kind of bizarro world let down. At first I thought it was some kind of joke, what with the fast sequence of pastiche non sequitors... Like a "what if" joke sequence similar to the exploding chewing gum. Like you, I thought I made decisions in the game to work towards a good ending, what with adopting a monk-like celibacy in relation to all the other ladies vying for tex's affection. Instead, because I wasn't fully "sincere" in stressing my affection to Danwicz (why should I be sincere to a cop?) or pressing Louie (he told me not to,) I end up simply as a creepy masochist who has a shrine to a woman from his past. I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out why I was on a hoverspeeder with Saffyre. Completely out of left field. If the game is TRULY reflecting my inner perspectives viz a viz the choices I made within it, I feel like a bad conflicted person now. :( You're supposed to make me like myself, game!

Also, your other conversations that dont involve Chelsee have no affect on your path? So you can be a jerk to everyone but if you make the 5 choices above you still get the Chelsee ending?

Yeah no, I like that, it makes perfect sense. It's just a total downer to be obsessive but not quite enough and end up with the worst ending in the game. :( I guess the uh, lesson here is that if you shoot for the moon, make sure to be exact, otherwise you'll end up "lost in space!"

choosing the right path is easy, go for chelsee all the way till the meeting at the resort, now you have a choice now either of the 3 girls you can choose as long as you keep your same choice with the 2 girls .
you have a choice of 3 paths here & nothing you do after this will change your path.
