Hello

I have started to play the game recently and i got some questions:

1) is it possible to change respawning point after you die?
2) i presume that only natural created caves are worth to explore? no use in making a shack on my backyard and keep digging?
3) is it normal that when I quit the game and back to play i get back to initial place? That would mean that it is best to make house close to starting point location, right? No use in finding cool place since when you die you will get teleported faraway from home.
4) is the world finite or it is expanding as you progress? is it possible to go venture to the left and and up coming from right?
5) after some exploring i get to the dungeon with a boss and some place do venture. But how many dungeons are in a world? and what happens when you kill the boss and finish this dungeon .. making new world or just keep exploring to find more?
6) is it some kind of waypoint system? when i explore and reach far places and a die i get back to home and i have to go back such a long trip to place i died?
7) Once a world get corrupted on me and refused to work, game kept crashing when I was trying to enter it - what happened? and how to avoid that.

thanks in advance :)

1. You need a bed. A bed is simple to craft, but you'll need a sawmill and a touch of iron/lead to make a chain.

2. Ores generate just about anywhere. And building a mineshaft is a personal preference. More commonly is the helevator, but that's a late pre-hardmode thing.

3. See 1. Although making a base camp near spawn is typically smart.

4. Finite, no wrap. Three sizes.

5. There is one dungeon. The boss is the gatekeeper, not at the end. Also, the dungeon is more a midpoint of the game if anything. Later, you will return to it.

6. You will find that as you advance through the game, equipment makes this less of a chore, and the game is more about living than death. Keep recall potions on you until you luckily find something that doesn't get consumed and can return you. You can also set another spawn, but you have to reset the first when you're done.

7. Exactly what happened. Prevention would be along the lines of trying not to modify the world with extreme measures and keeping the occasional backup copy.
1) If you build a house with a bed in it and jump into it the bed will become your new respawn. I built one in a cave once which was handy when I died a couple of times close to it.

2) You can save time by going through them yes but you will still need to dig some to explore and get ores and perhaps some other blocks to build stuff you want to build.

3) You will respawn in the original respawn point but if you have a house with a bed and slept in it (jump in and out) once, you'll respawn in that bed just like if you die. Personally I recommend building the house close to the respawn in the beginning but later you can build multiple houses with beds whenever you have a certain location to focus on.

4) Finite, you decide the size in the beginning when you create the world. If you're playing alone Small is fine but I would still recommend Medium just for the sake of it. I don't recommend Large if you have a slow computer. And the world doesn't work like the old Snake game on Nokia phones, there's "barrier" that will block your path.

5) The amount depends on the type of dungeons and size of the world. Some dungeons are unique and only exist as one dungeon per world regardless of size and some more general (like the beginner Cave area) will be larger if you pick a larger world. DO NOT!! restart worlds as you will be able to unlock new stuff the more you make progress. Once you have uncovered everything you can start multiple worlds if you want but that's not what this game is about, it's about making progress on your own of course you are free to choose.

6) No waypoint which is why you should check the mini-map from time to time and try to have a system when you explore.

I recommend finding the respawn point, find the NPC called The Guide and trap him in some dirt close to it and then start to build your house as well. When you want to explore dig right down very close to the respawn point until you find some cave that the world created for you and explore but keep checking the mini-map where you are in case you die. As you make progress you will learn to find where you died or where you have been with ease but in the beginning it's kind of annoying, depending on your senses for location and memory.

7) That has never happened to me, I would read the Steam Discussions and see if someone mentioned anything. Only thing I can say regarding corruption is to avoid mixing too many mods but it's possible there's a back up world created by the game although that might not help too much if corruption began before the back up process started.

To not confuse you, when Darvond said there's only one dungeon he is talking about the one called "Dungeon" whereas I used it as a general term for the different types of caves and locations you will encounter.

Another tip, avoid the wikia in the beginning. You can use it later when you get stuck. :)

Screw the housing, can I move into this thread? XD

Every time I figure out how to do something it seems to counter everything I previously learned, but I'm having fun.

Also for the OP, one thing I have started doing is building a tiny little box at my starting point with a door. That way if I get respawned at night surrounded by baddies I'm not immediately toast; and that HAS happened to me before.
there are no "warp" points but later in the game you can get a NPC called the Steampunker to move in that sells teleporters which you can connect via wire(sold by another NPC) to warp you from one set point to another set point.

You can also cut down on travel time by setting up a minecart and rail system, minecart tracks are crafted with 1 iron or lead bar and 1 wood a peice at a iron or lead anvil. Once you set your tracks right clicking on the tracks will spawn the minecart for you to ride in. Once you get the mechanic NPC you can add track switches to allow you to "jump" tracks/create intersections by connecting wire and a switch or pressure plate to the parts of the track you want to create a intersection on.

Just make sure you have a room or a separate house for your NPC's to live in, it has to have a place to sit, table, light(torches will do fine) a door, four border walls and a filled in "backwall"

That is also a good idea.

That sounds awesome, that is new to me. I can't wait to begin playing again once 1.3 is released. :)

oh if you think the minecart is cool, there is also a ridable bunny that you can get if you do a set number of quests for a NPC, as well as a turtle. those were added either in 1.2 or 1.2.4 can't recall.

But those pale in comparison to what was revealed to be coming in 1.3

thanks for all the tips and advises, they will sure come in handy :)

Oh and they are also adding a Portal gun in 1.3 which should make boss fights alot more fun.
Is there any way to make notes on the map? I keep finding Crimson Alters waaaaaay before I can actually use them and I'd like to be able to go back to them later on without having to search the entire undergound.

AFAIK only if you take a screenshot of the map and then make notes on that screenshot (in Paint or on a printed version).

I put a huge block of torches near things that I want to mark. It makes them stick out pretty well on the map when you glance over it later.
