Been fishing a lot lately, to try to get most of the unique drops from the Angler (Adam, in my world). I need a few more things from him in order to make the PDA and then the phone - that will help me free up some inventory slots. Just need the Weather Radio and the Sextant (though maybe I already have the sextant, hiding in one of my 'Device' chests).

Was loving the treasure-finding Spelunker Glowsticks, but I accidentally used a bunch of them because of fat fingers, aka forgetting to swap my equipped item via hotkeys. D'oh! Need to find another Skeleton Merchant and buy a ton of the things. Or I could make a bunch of Spelunker Potions but I don't want to use up gold or platinum ore if that can be avoided. Managed to snarf up most of the free ore and gems already, so it's not a huge priority at this point.

I've been building up my "Oh shit - I died!" chest with gear for recovering my corpse loot. Just about got it complete though I should probably create a second set of GPS, REK3000, and Goblin Tech.

One somewhat irritating thing about crafting (unless I'm missing something): the bonus on your lower tier items don't seem to transfer into the new item you crafted. The lesson learned is to use the crappiest items to make the next item, and sell the better pieces for more money.

I REALLY need to come up with a better system of storing crap. Got 3 dozen crates holding all manner of junk (do I need to keep 8 compasses on hand?) and they're a bit mixed up despite my best efforts. Maybe it's time to make a real lair instead of the wood and dirt they've lived in thus far. Time to read-up on switches, trapdoors and walls, etc., as well as apparatus for making water, lava, and other consumables. Also need to make a bait farm to eliminate the trips to the jungle for slugs and grubs. Could get more bait from the crates caught when fishing, but I'm stockpiling them to be opened once Hardmode is activated.

bevinator: You can use the Builder's Workshop world
Ah! Holy crap, I'm hyperventilating. All the damn things! All of them!

bevinator: You can use the Builder's Workshop world if you're looking for a particular rare item, or just a giant stack of a common/uncommon one. It's got oodles of everything, which can be very helpful if you have an ambitious building project that you want to do ingame rather than with TEdit, or if that one item JUST WON'T DROP.
feels a bit like cheating. i'll try the legit way a few times more, but i'll keep that world just in case things get too frustrating. thanks :)

From a certain standpoint it IS cheating, but I consider the excessively low drop rates of certain items in Terraria to be a design flaw. Also, if you happen to get unlucky with bosses that are difficult to summon manually (like Plantera) it can make the game pretty tedious. If a boss has 8+ different drops, it can take 20+ boss kills or more to get the one you want.

So long as you use it judiciously, I consider it to be a convenience rather than straight-up cheating.
WOOO! Halloweentime in Terraria!

I shall. No monkeying around with the system clock for me! =P
It's about time I took on the Wall of Flesh. Need to make a flat-ish platform on which to conduct the running battle, gather some potions and other gear, and then jump into hardmode. I'll be taking the Bee Gun, Arkhalis, some Beenades, and another sword.

Wondering if I've over-mined the world. Nothing really left to explore except the underworld, so hopefully hardmode will make some decent additions to the place. I've dug up nearly all of the ore and gems already...

Haven't done squat with the domicile, either, so they're still living in relative squalor.

Or I might start over from scratch, now that I have a handle on how to play the game. Make a better home, not dig everything out like a giant ant farm, and try more crafting.

I do that every other day. :P I've faced the Wall once and kicked it's ass, but never have the patience to continue in Hard Mode so I just start over.

Is hardmode a big change to the game, or is it mostly the same but with newer (and harder) enemies, loot, materials?

I haven't played it long enough. :P

I don't like being pressured and everyone keeps telling me it's not a big deal but the couple of times I got there the Corruption/Crimson started spreading immediately which really killed the laid back, go your own pace, fun of the game.

Here I am trying to explore and check out all the new stuff and I keep running into new patches of red and purple.

I'll give it a go on this world, see what happens. As mentioned, I've explored nearly every bit of it, mined out everything worth taking so far (without using TEdit or whatever it's called), and the only life-and-death challenge I'm getting comes from falls into lava. What's left is repeated fishing to get a couple specific pieces of loot in order to make the PDA. Could play around with crafting a bit - goodness knows I have enough raw material stored up.

Aaaaand that's about it, I think, for this world.

For future reference, invest in Obsidian Potion. It's easy to make and makes you impervious to lava, including being able to breath in it. One or two bottles and you can load up with enough Hellstone to last a lifetime.

Good idea. For now, when I'm farting around near big pools of lava I have the Magic Mirror whipped out so I can escape in short order. Learned my lesson that it's better to die (from the residual damage) at your spawn point than it is to die down below. ; )
They are selling these on Amazon. :D
