Depends on what biome your trying to create. anything tied to grass like say Jungle or Glowing Mushroom biome is tied to length as the game registers it by X blocks covered in that grass type. So a jungle for example has to be at least 80 blocks long for the game to consider it a jungle to spawn jungle mobs, while a glowing mushroom biome needs to be at least 100 tiles in length for it to start counting as a surface mushroom biome, though with glowing mushrooms as soon as you have 1 full block covered in mushroom grass it will spawn glowing mushrooms.

Non-grass releated biomes will be counted by X blocks in a area either by height or width(or both) so if you have 1,000+ blocks of sand it will be counted as a desert. 200 blocks of crim/corrupt/hallowed blocks or grass tiles counts as corruption/crimson or Hallow.

Snow biome is 300 or more snow, ice or slush blocks.

Obviously if your creating a biome for farming purposes it's best to have it as long and as wide as possible in order to better allow mobs to spawn. Well save for meteorite anyway since metorite heads always spawn off screen anyway .

I built a jungle biome last night. I went with 80 mud blocks across and planted to jungle grass seeds. Before long my platform was rockin' and rollin'. :D The only reason I did it is because I wanted to see if I could, plus I guess I'll need to make a mushroom biome if I ever get to Hardmode.

Here's another odd question: What happens if you dig all the way down and then fall off the map?

Similarly, what happens if you reverse gravity and then fall up off the map?

Top of the map has an invisible wall, and as for the bottom, I guess it's just the same.

You can't go past the border of the map, even if you dig out the last block. If you fall with reversed gravity (potion or accessory) and hit the border at space, gravity will automatically reverse (to normal) and send you back down.

The question that follows is, of course: Has anyone ever mined (or otherwise removed) every single block out of a world? I mean, without the use of hacks, mods, external editing programs or the like.

Even on a small world that would be a work of great tedium, even with the DCU.

I'd be willing to bet money that there are some who have done it, if only a small few. And you just know that if there were an achievement for it, plenty more people would attempt it. =P

There is no way to remove every block without using an editor or the likes of it, as you cannot reach every block in the world, even so if you use the Rocket Launcher and Missiles II or IV, which can break the off-screen blocks. And that is because there will likely be chests outside the border, which cannot be moved before someone clears their inventory.

Thus said, I've broken down my world nr. 2, where only my base remains. This was for material hoarding purposes. To remove the blocks outside the border, they where shifted around with Tedit and then farmed manually. This took some days, to be sure. xD

I'm in a huge forest area, with a tree, a semi-corrupt Snow/Desert to the left and a Desert to the right. I have:
- a set of Iron equipment,
- an opening to the cavern through the tree and Underground Snow where I've seen Undead Miners and Vikings,
- a shitty ice boomerang and an ice mirror,
- an aboveground base,
- 200 health, full mana,
- silver and gold in the world,
- $20 in cash,
- no demon altar yet.

Problem is, I'm kinda bored because I don't see a clear opportunity for advancement. As far as I've gathered from the wiki, my options are:
- build a herb farm, start making potions, get Blizzard in a bottle in preparation for fighting the EoC,
- build a tree farm and a rail skybridge, explore the world, try to find:
--- Dungeon: explore the entrance,
--- Ocean: find the Angler, do Angler quests for Reaver Shark,
--- sword shrine: try to get a decent sword,
- go farm a hook and a bone sword and pickaxe (con: stone in the cavern is a PITA to mine with iron),
- mine for gold, make a gold pickaxe, do generic stuff with it,
--- or descend into Corruption and try to crash a meteorite, then make a purple sword out of it,
----- or farm money, then make a star cannon and win at life,
- climb into the sky and try to find Starfury,
- just hang around and hope to buy a Katana.

How plausible are those? Anything else I should be doing instead?

Also, how far does Corruption extend beneath the surface?

Yeah, I know the feeling. For EoC all you really need is a decent ranged weapon (iron bow + couple hundreds fire or jester arrows is totally fine) and regen+armor potion for protection; that's just two dayblooms, a mushroom, a piece of iron, and some sand for bottles. Double jump is not really necessary as long as you build at least one ramp.

One thing you could do before attempting EoC is exploring the corrupted caves and see if you can get something nice out of Shadow Orbs; Vilethorn for example is an amazing starting weapon, and the rifle is nice too (ammo will be a problem until you get the arms dealer tho). You'll need explosives to break ebonstone (bombs or dinamyte, granades won't do) if you don't have enough try fishing for a while. Beware that for every 3 Shadows Orbs destroyed a boss will come.

The Reaver Shark is a normal fishing drop btw, not a quest reward.

I don't have an exact number handy but in my medium world the Corruption seems to go down about 200-400 blocks? Something like that - it's not particularly deep - and then it's just regular stuff beneath that. I've mined fully under and around that area so it seems like it doesn't zigzag its way farther down.

As Avogadro says, Reaver Shark is a regular drop from fishing in the ocean. You can also get Sawtooth Shark, which is a fun replacement for your axe. If you make your way up into the clouds, you can get some interesting items fishing in a sky lake. Beware the Harpies; they were pissing me off so I made a long overhang from underneath which I can fish with impunity. Cheesy, but those stupid things get irritating after a while.


Reminds me, I need to go down into the Corruption. I went chicken shit on it early on and capped off both chasms to reduce the number of world eaters coming at me, but it's time to open it up and see what's going in down there. My Arkhalis makes quick work of most up-close stuff right now (and I use it as a sort of x-ray device, to see farther through terrain blocks), though at some point I need to get a ranged weapon beyond the Artery yoyo and boomerang.

The first drop from a Shadow Orb is always a Musket + musket balls, while the first Crimson Heart always drops The Undertaker and musket balls. And having a gun or bullet in your inventory is one of the requirements for the Arms Dealer to spawn, so there's a decent chance of him arriving shortly after breaking the first Orb/Heart if you have a house ready.

Your next step should really just be to gather as many throwing weapons as you can stack and then chuck them at EoC when it shows up. Shurikens are great for the first fight with EoC, regardless of your armor. You basically just need to learn how to dodge his attacks, and the gear you have should be plentiful.
