Is damage boosting a thing in this game? In other words, is it possible to reach higher ledges without the proper items by getting hit and knocked back?
Renaming - I've opened chests a bajillion times and never noticed that. LOL - hell, I just figured out the stacking options last night.

I really suck at these games sometimes. XD

Beyond renaming chests, any other organization tips for chests and your workshop space(s)?

You never noticed it because they just added it. :P

No, they didn't. =).

Also, I get the feeling HereForTheBeer didn't start playing until after 1.3 came out.
I would think that tinyE was talking about the "quick stack to chests"-button on the right of the inventory screen, which was added in 1.3

Correct. I stumbled upon one of the screenshot threads about the time it was on sale (or maybe there was a 1.3 announcement thread), was intrigued by what I saw, and bought it, oh, a month back?

Haven't really touched anything else since. Stupid addictive game <grumble grumble>

Picked up an Arkhalis sword from a drop last night. Big difference now in melee combat, even more so than using the Reaver Shark. The Slime King went down in maybe 30 seconds this time around (for me, that's doing great!). Pretty soon it will be time to take on Skeletron.

Except he only quotes the note about Renaming chests.

One thing I tend to do is make a large room that the NPCs can't reach, then place a bunch of chests as closely spaced as possible (using platforms). I also put down some Candles at regular intervals if the room is large enough to need lighting. This is mostly for mass storage of stuff that isn't immedately useful, such as vanity items, spare accessories, weapons, building blocks that I don't intend to use for crafting and so on.

I tend to place the most useful crafting stations in an easy to access area along with 2-3 chests (on platforms above the apropriate crafting stations) with the most common crafting materials (like metals, ores, and plants). That way I have easy access to whatever materials I may need and I won't need to run back and forth or search through a bunch of chests.

A chest for buff (and possibly healing) potions near your bed is a useful thing, if you've filled your piggy bank and safe with "I intend to use this for a specific occasion"-equipment. You may also want both a safe and piggy bank near your bed. Once again, my usual style is to put these on platforms above the location, this is mostly from pre-1.3 where NPCs were quite happy to spend an entire ingame day standing in front of a chest on the ground...

I made my floating workshop at 2-jumps height, now that I have a double-jump accessory. Even though a chair and table constitute a crafting station for a at least a couple things (watches, for instance), I'll have to remember to NOT put them in the shop lest an NPC decides to make it Home. For now, they won't be wandering in by themselves.

Currently, the chests are stacked 2-high, using platforms. I have around 16 now, with room to easily drop in another 8. About half are completely empty but I have yet to move stuff from the original chests in the house. Figuring on using one chest just for dirt and another for stone. I'm a hoarder, but am doing my damnedest to be an organized hoarder. Haha

It was considered to group chests near specific crafting stations but then I figured that some materials can be crafted on more than one station, so I then dithered over how to organize THAT. But now that you mention it, there's no point putting dyes and dye-making materials in with the other chests, since you use them (almost?) exclusively with one station. Maybe I need to filter out those more-limited materials and re-jigger their placement.

One thing I do like is that you can craft directly from your storage chests, so long as it's within the proximity of the crafting station. I suppose this goes back to your suggestion... Now that I think about it, there's nothing preventing me from having, say, multiple workbenches, if that's what it takes to get the materials better organized and eliminate a bunch of running back and forth.

On the bed and potions... I'm not yet using a bed, but have been thinking about the possibilities. For now, at tinyE's suggestion (has that phrase EVER been used before? XD ), I did make a little building around my standard spawn point, and am thinking about putting a weapons-and-potions chest there in the event that I croak and need to go find my death loot. May as well get all of that stuff gathered in the place where I'll most need them.

In case you didn't know, you can manually assign any NPC who's joined you to any valid housing you have available. (Click the house icon above your equipment slots to switch to housing query/assignment mode, and again to switch out of it.) But if you simply neglect to fulfill one or more of the requirements to make the housing valid -- such as not placing any sort of chair, for example -- then you won't have to worry about any newcomers moving into your crafting chamber in the first place. :)

Yep. Just didn't want a new one to take up residence while I was away, and then I return for some event (Blood Moon, etc.) and get the poor sucker killed before I remember to reassign her / his room.
How many blocks do I need to make a biome, and can I stack them or do they need to be laid out side by side?

These days, I always try to just stay the hell away from my housing when there's an event like a Blood Moon or Goblin Invasion going on. It's less stressful knowing I don't have to worry about my NPCs being slaughtered, and I can concentrate on my own hide. =)

HunchBluntley: Yeah, another one'll come later. That message threw me, too, though, the one time I got it during a goblin invasion (if memory serves). Other NPCs were dying, then I got a message that my Angler left. "WTF...?!" It happened off-camera, I think, so I don't even know if he truly left, or if he died, and the message was just really kooky.

WingedKagouti: Child character and potential rating issue with death.
Does it say anywhere in-game that he's supposed to be a child? I mean, I'm not doubting you; the devs have probably said it themselves in their forums or wherever, and the wiki no doubt has this recorded, as well...but I've seen nothing in the game itself that would indicate he's a little kid, rather than a middle-aged or older man (and a rather angry-looking one, IMO), as I always assumed.

Two of his quotes (using a character that has handed over a fish for the day) establish him as not just a child, but an orphan:
"I don't have a mommy or a daddy, but I have a lot of fish! It's close enough!"
"Let a kid give you some advice, never touch your tongue to an ice block! Wait, forget what I said, I totally want to see you do it!"

Avoiding NPC-icide
Is a matter of pride
Though my nurse once died,
And also my guide

When you get a doll (and evidently you can get one for every NPC) you don't have to use it to kill them; you can just torture the shit out of them. :D
