Trying Terraria for the first time, and for some reason the text and inventory icons are so small as to be completely unreadable.

Tried on a 13" retina laptop screen and a desktop with a non retina 1920x1200 monitor.

Is there any option i may have missed that would make the UI readable? As it is now it is simply unplayable. I doubt even my younger self with perfect eyesight could do it.

Attaching a few vertical slices of how it looks at 1920x1200.

Have you tried the UI scale option? I can be found in the ingame settings menu.

Afraid I don't have it, I just triple checked.

The General section looks like in the attachment, the Sound section has the volume sliders that you show as being in General, but I can't find the zoom or ui scale sliders anywhere. Is your screenshot from a Mac version?

My title screen says v 1.4.0.5 which looks to be the latest.

It's the Windows version, interesting that they made the ingame menu different in the Mac version.
You could try to go through the config file, which according to pcgaming wiki on Mac is found in

~/Library/Application Support/Terraria/

The Windows version has a setting called UIScale found in the config.json file, you may be able to find the same setting and change it manually to something that works for you.
Ouch, look what defaults:

"Zoom": 1.0,
"UIScale": 0.4888889,
"MapScale": 1.0,

What kind of Macs are they developing on, 512x384 resolution?

Changed Zoom and MapScale to 1.5 and UIScale to 1.0 and now I can see what's going on on my laptop at least.

Thanks for all the help!

Now I only need to find whatever resolution doesn't constrict my mouse cursor to like 2/3 of the actual screen. I somehow broke it trying options.

Too bad most of my enthusiam for trying Terraria out is gone now... might be the first time I demand a refund from GoG...
