Hi

I've just realized that I've been missing the in-between missions videos. When yo go from your quarters to the "mission room" most missions have a video about the Strike force crew, very similar to Wing commander and the like. For some reason, they only play after you start the game, so if you finish a mission and start another right away the video it's going to get skipped.

this happens on boht my laptop and desktop so I guess other people might be suffering this bug too.

For now the only way to avoid this is to save and exit the game after each mission, it's quite annoying.

Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone knows a solution?

Thanks

Yes. All you have to do is create a new folder and name it "Movie" in the TN folder as a place holder. I am not sure why this was not done in the first place. The TN.CFG file points at both the C mount movie path and the D mount movie path (which in this case is the CD image file in the CD folder), but because the C movie path does not exist at all I am guessing it is causing problems. I am still ironing that out. In the mean time creating a dummy movie folder in the TN folder seems to correct the problem and the videos should play great now from the D mount where the actual videos live. Hope this helps.

I think I can confirm this. I have played mission 8 and no video for the mission briefing has been played. After creating the movie folder (both on the install folder and the <install folder>/TN to be sure) the video has been played.
No luck for me with adding a "MOVIE" folder. At first I thought it may be due to being installed on a different drive, but same results with the install on the C drive. The briefing movies still skip. Otherwise the game seems to work perfectly and it surprisingly fun and unique for such an old game. Definitely glad to finally have an opportunity to try this one, have been waiting on it for a long time.

Ok, added the folder to the install directory and it worked! Thanks!

Strange. Both story cutscenes and mission briefings are working just fine without editing. I just did 2 missions in a row and both played fine.

The whole video playback problem is bizarre because it seems everyone is having a different experience. Even before I created the Movie folder the videos would sometimes play and sometimes not. I am thinking maybe a timing/cycle issue or even codec issue in the emulation. Honestly have no idea, but glad it is working for you. Adding the empty Movie folder to my TN folder fixed it for me.

Would one you guys try something for me?

Use the DOSBox Configuration Tool that came with the game and set your Graphic Mode to OpenGLnb and under the Advanced Settings tab check mark Keep Aspect Ratio. Save Settings and then start the game. My videos now play with those video settings enabled. The whole Movie dummy folder thing I suggested failed on me eventually and the videos stopped playing again, but when I setup the graphics mode like I stated in the DOSBox Configuration Tool the videos come right up. For now anyways.

Let me know what your results are.

Thanks to Rezorrand for letting me know about these settings.

After reinstalling, I was having this issue. Using those settings have gotten the briefing videos to play again. I'm going to keep playing and see if the issue stays fixed, while I mull over trying to do that dummy install again.

Cool man. I think Rezorrand fixed the video playback issue without even realizing it. Maybe the video codecs that are used or a combination with the emulation makes the video unstable when not in their native aspect ratio. Just a guess, but it seems to be working great now.

Yeah. Same here. Played ten or so missions, all videos played as far as I could tell.

Haha. :D That was an unexpected benefit.
And now I know why my videos played right form the start. I instantly switched to Direct3D and Aspect Ratio. Still, good to know this fixed an issue I would have had otherwise :)
Gosh golly, this thread saved me a lot of hunting.

I played this game to death as a kid and I remember the FMV cutscenes extremely well. I noticed they weren't playing in the default settings (aside from the opening) and set about trying to fix it. This saved me from doing anything too drastic. Simply changing my video settings to use Direct3D fixed it like a charm.

Many thanks to everyone here, as usual!

Direct3D? Are you using a custom dosbox build? I'm interested, as I'm having some issues with OpenGL. It forces me to restart the computer since I start getting all kinds of weird glitches even if I have closed dosbox after trying to use it.

EDIT: Nevermind, found the option mentioned in the configurator, it wasn't listed on the .conf file.

I too have problem with cutscenes not playing.
But it's easy to fix by first saving after each mission, then go to Mission Briefing. If mission briefing video is not playing, I just start the mission, abort it and reload, which fixes the problem.
Not an elegant fix, but it works.
