Change your security application. There is zero reason for it to do that, so it's crap. Change it.
I have windows 7. I turned off the firewall option to download but it still does the same thing. what other security app. can I switch off ?

thanks for the reply hickory =)

Your Windows firewall is not at fault. You said that a security scan gave a message that it couldn't be downloaded. What was the exact message, and what anti-virus have you installed?
it says file cannot be downloaded then internet crashes, have Microsoft security essentials

looking at that I guess turn off real time protection? I cant find anything else to turn off in it. heh

No, I asked for an 'exact' message. Copy/paste the entire message (or write it down) here.

If it's MSSE that's giving the error, then yes, it needs to be disabled. Microsoft do not make good security software.
in the file download screen, it says this program cannot be downloaded then it kicks me out of the internet. turning off real time protection doesn't help.

Another thing that is weird, a few months ago I bought several games from gog and they installed no problem.. I cant seem to find a specific button to press to keep it from running a security scan after it downloads.

How are you downloading the files, and do you have full administrative permissions? Have you tried using the GOG Downloader?
sorry not very computer savy, if you mean gog galaxy I tried to download it but it did same thing. ie downloaded the file when it got to 100% a message came across saying running security scan then it says file couldn't be downloaded and kicks me out of the internet.

Not sure how to check about admin permissions. on a older machine that used vista I would right click and give myself permission.. I don't see any options for that with windows 7.

You absolutely *need* to disable that overzealous Microsoft Security Essentials, particularly when downloading from known good sources, like GOG. It is this scan that's causing this by the sound of things. Go to your MSSE settings and UNCHECK "Turn on Real-Time Protection", then be sure to click 'Save Changes'. Note that MSEE will restart each time you log on to your computer. If you still have problems, try disabling the service by typing the following into the Start >> Run dialog (type exactly, case sensitive):

sc stop MsMpSvc
thx a ton hickory will try it =)

tried just clicking it off but it still scanned and crashed me. If I type in the msmpsvc option, will MSEE come back on by itself once I restart the computer? Or would I need to type a new command to restart it?

It should restart by itself when you log back on or restart your computer, but you can manually start it again by typing:

sc start MsMpSvc
thx hickory will try it out, wish me luck =)

hmm where is the start run dialog? I clicked the start button but the box only searches for programs.

Yeah, I forgot that Microsoft, in it's twisted wisdom, removed the Run command from the Start menu. To re-enable it go to
Start >> Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalisation >> Taskbar and Start Menu
On the Start Menu tab click 'Customise'.
You will get a list of options. Select the 'Run' check box. Don't forget to press 'OK'. Now you can use the 'Run' command.
ok tried that but it still runs a security scan. when I typed the command in I briefly saw a black box flash and disappear but no sure how to confirm it turned it off. so either I failed to turn it off correctly or something else on my computer is running the scan.. Is there a way for me to check that I turned it off correctly?
