That fight was shockingly easy. I had just finished up with the Balor and all my long-term (anything over 1 minute per level) buffs were place, but all the shorter-duration spells had timed out. I was more or less just exploring around and wasn't exactly sure when the final boss would appear. When the fight actually did occur, Zuggtmoy barely had time to do anything. She summoned a Hezrou, made a few feeble attempts to attack my party (nothing connected), and attempted to cast something that just bounced off of "protection from evil". The whole struggle lasted 4-5 rounds (I wasn't really counting) and then she was down, and my party was completely unharmed.

I was a little taken aback that it was over just like that. After dying several because of my tendency to charge head-first into battles with inadequate preparation, I just waltzed in and effortlessly killed the final boss. I'm kinda disappointed now; it was a really anticlimatic ending after a lot of really cool and interesting battles getting here. Not saying I was expecting something crazy hard, but that was a complete non-challenge.

Anyways, interesting game; glad I had the opportunity to play it. Shame it had so many problems, because it's definitely something that would have been worth seeing more of.

Haha, well she is basically just a huge witch, in disadvantage if you have a bunch of buffed up axeman 2 feet away when the fight starts. But I do wonder how you managed to inflict about 2000 points of damage in just a few rounds. Spells are most always ineffective due to high saves and resistance, did you get a harm through or something?

Anyway, if you play the game with CO8 added content,
there's an end boss fight in the other town that's so unfairly difficult I'm not even trying.

Yeah, I figured that much out. I had a fighter/rogue with a spike chain, a fighter/barbarian with a glaive, and a combat-oriented cleric with a greatsword (the spike chain and glaive were +3 holy weapons, the greatsword was the +3 frost weapon you find on dungeon floor 3). That's a lot of damage output, and there simply is not a lot of time for a single enemy to start using abilities before she drops.

But I do wonder how you managed to inflict about 2000 points of damage in just a few rounds. Spells are most always ineffective due to high saves and resistance, did you get a harm through or something?
That's odd, she did not have 2000 HP, more around 700.

I had greater heroism and haste on everyone, so most of my attacks were connecting, and the fighter/barbarian on her own was reliably dealing over 100 damage per round with a full-attack. I think I threw a magic missile at her because my sorcerer had nothing better to do, and the spellcasters did summon several meat shields (which didn't do diddly squat) but their only significant contribution was the buff spells.

I've also got the added content; where do I encounter this fight? I returned to Hommlet and talked to a few people but didn't get any responses.

I'm wondering if for some reason Zuggtmoy failed to get up her usual damage reduction spell at the start of the fight. That would definitely have made things faster, and would have put the damage the party needed to deal much more in line with 700 than 2000.

Are you referring to the party of epic level kidnappers, or has the newer version of Co8 added in something that's even more unfair than that?

Or just might be the damage reduction did work, but only reduced like 20 points out of every 100, or so.

All the added content comes from brother Smythe (the smith), ask for "something different" or something to that end.

And yeah, the epic kidnappers were tough, but not as bad as a bunch of angry gods with greatswords.

Must have played through the game before they added that one. Now I'll have to find time for another playthrough at some point just to see how much I can get my ass kicked by the new content.

Jarmo:
If you do added content, does it remove the level cap to at least somewhat even it out?

Not automatically.
CO8 launcher has "remove level cap" as one of the options.
Choosing max party size and "max hp when leveling up" are other neat options.

Jarmo:
Will switching to that destroy my saves?

I'd hazard a guess it wont, but no promises.
Might also be it doesn't affect ongoing, but only new games.

Guess I'll make a backup of the folder and cross my fingers...
Thanks for the advice.

I know for a fact that you can toggle "max HP on level-up" in the middle of your campaign without issue, but it will only affect subsequent level-up events.
