Anyone else find that the "Usable object highlight" doesn't work at all? I would have thought that if it was a universal problem Google would turn something up about it.

The quick reference sheet claims that it does. After posting, I found that it does seem to highlight individual items, just not usable containers. Better than nothing I suppose.

Also highlights doors and bodies with loot. Don't work on all containers like chests though.
