Just purchased the game about an hour ago. Won't install. Gives error:

An error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Temple of Elemental Evil\ToEE.exe

MoveFile Failed; code 2
The system cannot find the file specified.

I have given the file Admin access and set compatibility mode for Win XP sp3 with no change in the error. Has anyone else gotten this error?

The movefile error is associated with antivirus programs. Disable your antivirus while installing as the TOEE support page :

http://www.gog.com/en/support/the_temple_of_elemental_evil/virus_detected_in_the_game_s_executable_false_positive_warning
I do not have any antivirus or firewall programs installed, and Windows Firewall is disabled so that I can install it. I have also tried to install in a custom directory with the same results. Anything else I can check?

I have now disabled UAC on Win 7 and restarted. I still get the same error. I have redownloaded the file twice and the integrity check completes. When I accept the User Agreement and press install I still get the same error. Any other ideas?
The link:
http://www.gog.com/en/support/the_temple_of_elemental_evil/virus_detected_in_the_game_s_executable_false_positive_warning

states:

Windows Vista uses functionality called UAC (User Account Control) which, among other things, scans executable files before launching them. This may cause the installer to be launched after a long delay, depending on its size (sometimes many minutes). You can bypass or disable UAC for the duration of the installation process to bypass this delay.
It is generally advisable to disable UAC altogether, as it is known to cause in some software, especially games, both old and new.

To disable UAC, please consult this support article.

You could also try launching the installer by right-clicking the setup file and selecting "Run as Administrator".

Finally, if your installer is divided into multiple files, make sure that you're trying to open the executable file (with an .exe extension and an orange icon) rather than a .bin file. The .bin files aren't disc image files, but archives used by the executable file.

I am running this as Admin, UAC is disabled.

"To disable UAC, please consult this support article." What support article?

Also, would Windows 7 defender cause this?I've tried all of the listed suggestions, and I still cannot get the game to start installation. Does anyone know of anything else that I can try?!??!Still not working. Anything else that I can try?

- add toee.exe to the Date Execution Prevention exclusion list

- if running SLI or Crossfire disable second card

- if running an ATI card turn off Catalyst Control Center

- add toee.exe to the Windows Defender 'Do not scan' list

Completed this list now as well. I have re-downloaded this now 3 times and still have the same error. No one else seems to be having this problem. I have no firewall/anti-virus, standard home Win 7, plenty of other GOG.com games with no problems. But the error seems to state that the set up cannot find the TOEE.exe file to install it. What gives? What else can I try?
A previous post mentions the "Program Files (x86)" folder. Have you tried installing outside of there, such as a "Games" folder? At times, Win 7 can be a bit restrictive when it comes to writing files in that folder.
Absolutely. One of the first things I tried. Still no change in the error. I've been working on this in excess of 3 hours now and it's starting to look bleak. One other thing I've noticed though. I originally downloaded this through my browser, so I've downloaded the GOG Downloader app with Adobe AIR. When I try to add TOEE to my queue, Nothing happens. I have many other games that queue right up though? Does this indicate anything? It seems to me the toee.exe is not present in my installer, and I'll download the thing as many times as it takes to get it, but of the two options, I'm stuck for now. Not sure why TOEE won't queue up, or why it's not downloading correctly. (at least thats my guess by the error.) But, this is my weekend. So this will be my evening until this is working. Any of this spark any new things to try?

Nah, that happened to me too. Some games just aren't loading up. I downloaded via browser and got it working no problem on the same OS.

Two things I can think of: delete the installer, re-download/reinstall, and disable Windows Defender before installing.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Sadly I have already tried that. I'm really at a loss. I am downloading it again and trying again, but this time I'm also downloading it on Win XP x64 and going to see if that makes any difference. I've disabled everything I can on Win 7 x64. ATI, Firewall, Win Defender, I really can't think of anything else to try yet. Anyone else have any ideas?

EDIT: AAAaaaaannd this seems to be a Win 7 x64 issue. Unless the download has been changed or updated within the last 30 minutes, I performed a simple download on Win XP x64 and after the integrity check I did not receive the error. Does this narrow it down to what may be causing the error? My Win XP machine is fairly weak next to my Win 7 machine, and I'd really love to have this on my main laptop.

Disconnect your Win7 box from the internet and disable Defender. Copy the succesfullly downloaded file from the XP box to a thumb drive/DVD, tranfer it to your Win7 machine and try to install it..

Keep a 'clean' copy of the file just in case.

I have the same problem and I turned off my anti-virus temporarily and now it is installing fine.
Just tried to move the file using a thumb drive. Same error. I have disabled all of the antivirus options that I know of in Win 7 x64. What did you disable Iman1699?
I was having the same issue on Windows Vista 64. Right-clicking on the Norton 360 icon in the bottom right corner and disabling firewall and automatic protection for 15 minutes seems to have remedied the situation. Best of luck, man, I hope your solution turns out to be as simple and you've just overlooked it thus far. ;)

EDIT: Guess I spoke too soon. It installed under the method described above, but without an .exe file, so I can't actually play it.
