My cleric suddenly lost his ability to heal himself with his own spells. I don't know if this is a bug or something that happened in-game. Anybody have any clues?

Do you use a genuine cure spell or the ability of good aligned clerics to spontaneously exchange memorized spells for healing spells (shift click a memorized spell on the radical to use this ability)? Evil clerics cause wounds instead of healing when using this ability.

I was using spells from the radial menu. Both genuine cure and shift click cures don't work. I didn't know about the shift click exchange thing so thanks for that tip.

You do know that you need to rest for 8 hours to recharge your spells, right?

There are also certain monsters like Stirges and Giant Ticks that do "blood drain" damage (ie. lower your Constitution), so until you regain your Con, your max hp is much lower than normal. You can't heal that damage back with a heal spell till you recover your Con. You will know when this is the case, because there will be a little red tab showing below the character portrait.

He doesn't have any ability damage or abnormal status currently. He can cure others, just not himself.

Does he have any other spell effects or magic items on?

There was something like bless or something that improves saving throws,
that sometimes made character do saves against friendly spells as well.

Don't remember right now what the buff it was.

What is his spell resistance? This is a common problem in Baldur's Gate with Viconia, who's spell resistance is very high.
The standard cure spells are touch range, while their mass versions aren't. Does the mass version of cure heal your cleric?

I rested him for 30 days to make sure any spell effects had worn off and took off all his items and inventory in case something was cursed.

After I read your post I went and had my wizard try to cast spells on him and they didn't work either. The cleric is level 8 so I guess he might be resistant to spells. I think when you battle a monster with spell resistance they display it as a stat above the monster, but I don't see spell resistance listed anywhere in my cleric's abilities.

Unfortunately, I don't have a mass cure spell to try that.

Usually you see party member stats when you hover the mouse over them.

Your cleric (or mage) must make a caster level check equal or above the level of spell resistance to the party member being healed, so you need to up your cleric's spell penetration by skill points and feats. Or use potions for the resistant member.
UPDATE:
Ok, I got frustrated and took some time off from TOEE. But I came back and I noticed further that my 8th level cleric can not heal himself or others with spells, cannot heal others with potions, is not effected by sorcerer's spells( like reduce person) and is not subject to the effect of scrolls. My cleric is like a "black hole" into which magic disappears and can also not escape. Needless to say this has made him a less than valuable member of the party. Anyway, still hoping someone might know if this is a bug or something I'm just missing.
Sorry, no good idea on my side. Holes can be tricky.

I've had a ton of weird glitches that disappeared with a fresh install. You may want to give that a try. Keep your saved games and just reinstall the game with a fresh download.

If that doesn't work, then it's probably a corrupt save. If you can back up a few saves, that may fix it. I suspect something was written in his data that doesn't make sense. (can you see any rolls being rolled when he's getting spells cast on him our out of him?)

Otherwise, kill him off and make a new cleric. Use a character editor (I found this thread about them: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10467 ) and use it to rebuild your cleric. Then save your game and see how it plays.

ToEE is a great game, but its bugs can be just horrible sometimes. If you're not using Co8, you may want to give it a try. Though I'm not sure if it fixes this issue.

I guess the simplest answer is the best, and although my last good save was quite a ways back, I'm just going to replay things from there. I just hope the same thing doesn't happen again!

Thanks and thanks to all who chimed in with suggestions!
