So I've tried for hours and hours to get this to run, following instructions to the letter, and I still can't get the game to run with this mod, and it seems like no one here can help me out. I bought this game when it was first released years ago, and never got very far into the game because it was a buggy mess, and the only reason I bought it here from GOG is the Circle of Eight modpack was said to fix all the bugs and make it playable. But I simply cannot get the game to run with this modpack at all, and haven't had any luck getting help from this forum. Its too bad, because I was really looking forward to playing this game.

Perhaps you could provide a summary of what challenges you're facing? That might actually help someone help you.

I'm running the mod on a Samsung RV520 laptop . I had some issues but finally got it to run using the help section below the mod information. Running the fixed game under administrator did the trick for me!

Thanks for the replie. So, where to start? The game seems to work fine (mostly) when I have no mods installed. Its a bit buggy, but its certainly playable. My problem is with the Co8 mod. I have read the forums here on gog, the gog support, and the Co8 mod forums, and another forum I found from a web search, and have tried every fix that I saw mentioned. None of it has worked. As far as what challenges I'm facing-well I can't get the game to run with the Co8 mod installed. At all. The game (with Co8 mod) crashes at the title screen, often it doesn't even get to the title screen before crashing. There were a few times that the game + modpack did not crash at the title screen, but it would crash as soon as I would select either 'options' or 'new game' or 'load game'.
I'm running win7 64bit. I've tried running the game as Admin, normally (not as Admin), in XP compatibility modes, win 98 mode, nothing works. I've set the game to use the integrated graphics, and also the Nvidia GT 525M. I can't really tell you which options I've checked when installing the mods, because I've installed it, uninstalled, and reinstalled about half a dozen times, and its been a while since I've last tried it, and I don't remember which specific options I chose. I know that doesn't help much, but keep in mind that I've tried every 'fix' I've seen in the various forums. When nothing worked, I'd uninstall the game/mod, then reinstall and try again.
As I said, the game works without the modpack, but after spending some hours with it, I just am not interested in playing ToEE without the mods.

I am having the same problem on windows 7, 64 bit. Nvidia 9500.

version 7.1.0. I get a message (I am writing this from memory) like "another instance of Temple of elemental evil is already running" and I don't even get the game launched

Hello all, looking for a little install help. Put on the GOG version, no problem. Installed the standard 7.01 Co8 and that seemed to work without issue. Had some long pauses and Win Defender found a virus or two, but once I disabled all went well.

ToEE Front End X comes up and I can make all sorts of changes. I activate the mod without issue and start the game, all no problem. Can play, new mod changes seem to be there, all is well.

I Close the game and the Front end and thats when the issues start, it will never successfully restart the ToEE Front End X. Tells me there is already a version running, and there is certainly not. I restarted, same. Reinstalled, same. Very odd. It suggests that I must run the ToEE FER exe from the same location as the insatll, and I am. If suggests further that I may have to install version two of the patch, I thought the GOG version already had this? And in either case the patch wont go on either, no matter what I try it claims it cant find the install directory and there is no way to seemingly point it there, including installing to the presumed original default directory. Everything is being run as the admin on Win7 64bit.

Anyone have a thought?

In case you still have the issue, I just installed ot the root C drive and all miraculously works.

Which one should I get if I would play this game for the first time?

quick question: version 7.3.0 has been released today and I still have 6.0.0; can I get 7.3.0 without any compatibility problems with the old save files?

And now I have a valid reason to start a new game after my having to format cost me my last major game.

AFAIK you can't port old savegames into new mods.
