NightK: One thing I hate about this game was that it was very boring and poorly designed outside of battle, does the mod do something about that?
I've only played with the Co8 patch, but I do wish it were more sandbox in that I'd like to be able to travel anywhere I want on the map (like in Arcanum) instead of only to "known" areas that have been "pointed out on my map" by NPC's.

If that's not what you meant, then please elaborate further & I'll offer what help I can.
Win7 64bit

I just spent 6+ hours trying to get this modpack working. I am about done with it, unless I can get some advice on how to proceed.

Installed the vanilla game, in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Temple of Elemental Evil

I have attempted to add the regedit hack from

http://www.co8.org/forum/showpost.php?p=13774&postcount=7

so that I can install the second patch, however at this point it does not seem to have worked because I still get the following error when I try to install Patch 2.

"Cannot locate TOEE, ANY, on your computer"

which means I cannot get rid of the following error

"Error: You must run the ToEEFE X from the Temple of Elemental Evil root folder!

If you are running ToEEFE X from the root ToEE folder and are still getting this message, please make sure you have the official Patch 2 installed before trying again."

I did install the modpack in the root folder, though to confirm that is the install directory, is it not? As well it is being run as an administrator.

What do, GoGrs?

1) Uninstall everything and start over. Install vanilla ToEE to c:\games. (This is an option you MUST select when installing the Gog version of games.)

2) Don't sweat the patch level. It'll work fine as is. (Gog is patch level 2 or 3, good enough for the Co8 to work with.)

3) Download and run the Co8 mod pack. Select your directory which should now be c:\games\/Temple of Elemental Evil for a destination.

4) Now follow the Co8 instructions in the middle of step 4 at: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?p=76226

5) It takes a long time to install... Even on a new gaming machine. I played on a 64 bit Vista and a 64 bit 7 machine without issue...

Sweeeeet. Kiss your free time goodbye.
Ok i need some info on this. I installed the game from gog. What do i do (exactly next) to make it work. I initially installed the game from gog and then skipped the patches and went the c08mod. The game said something about root folder. I tried running it as admin and it said it needs pacth 2. However someone just said it doesnt. This is friggin confusing. I am running from win7- 32 bit.

Double click on the Co8 exe and when the 'select destination' window appears click 'browse' and change the default install directory to where you have your GOG version installed. And that is it.

I do not own the GOG version but i have seen plenty of posts that convince me none of the patches are needed and i know the default directory that Co8 installs to is 'program files\atari\temple of evil...which i'm sure is not the correct destination for your GOG games.
I tried to download the mod from the links ink from the Circle of 8 web site for about 1/2 an hour and the links are all dead. Anyone know where else i can get this mod?

I tried for an hour last night, but I can't get this to run, either. I installed in C:\games\..., followed the instructions every step of the way. The game froze on me several times, so I rebooted and tried to run it one more time, only to get my very first BSOD on my new win7 laptop. I uninstalled and re-installed (again), and will try it again today.
Still can't get this game to run. Uninstalled/re-installed (again), and still the game will not run. It doesn't even get to the title screen. I've tried everything in the support articles at least two times, and still nothing. Each and every time I try to run the program I get this error:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: toee.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 00000000
Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.17514
Fault Module Timestamp: 4ce7ba58
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 00038da9
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3

Any help would be appreciated.
What Options should the average new player be using?

It comes with Humble NPCs and Clear Game Cache default checked to on, but the rest aren't. Tried to find some decent info on what exactly each option is supposed to do but not having much luck, anyone want to fill me in on what each thing does, and what's the consensus to start with?

Use the default set - should be good enough, maybe check max HP on level up, or whatever it is called here (I forgot). When using Co8 it would be a good idea to increase maximum attainable level to around 20 to make good use of the new content, and perhaps increase amount of player created party members if you want to have more control over your men.
