Hey, I'm pretty new to this so I wanted to see if there was any way I could hook up my PS3 controller to my laptop to play the game with. Has anyone been able to do this before?
I think you can do it. I have read several member able to use their PS3 controller on their PC. But for this game, it's not recommended since you're going to do a lot of interaction with your inventory and environment.

Just don't do it. You'll save yourself alot of time and hassle. These kind of games aren't made for controllers. Also it might save you from abuse from people who hate these kind of posts.

Don't be a wuss and play if properly ;)

The PS3 controller with bluetooth is doable for sure.
For PC games generally, which are hard-wired to use keys and don't like gamepads, it is best to use xpadder.
System Shock 2 only has partial controller support. The mouse is required for the inventory and other interface interaction unless you use other workarounds (e.g. Xpadder).

Anyway, to make your PS3 controller available for this and other games, download a wrapper such as XInput Wrapper for DS3 and Play.com USB Dual DS2 Controller. Once the program is set up correctly it will show up as a normal Windows-compatible controller and can be used in games. Note that the controller must be plugged in/turned on prior to starting System Shock 2.

EDIT: corrected old instructions with better program.

Anyway, to make your PS3 controller available for this and other games, download MotioninJoy and follow the steps to set it up. Once MotionJoy is set up correctly it will show up as a normal Windows-compatible controller and can be used in games. So, just so I have this straight, normal System Shock 2 has partial support? Or is this thread about the enhanced edition?

You're asking if this thread, that was started in 2013, is about the enhanced edition of the original System Shock, which was released on GOG two months ago.

Just... let those dates swirl around in your head for a while until you figure out the answer to your question.

Oops! I forgot to check the date on the thread/post. Sorry, I can be a bit absent minded like that at times,

ETA: I just booted up the game for this first time, not only could I not even bind anything to my 360 controller, but they don't work even partially when booting up the game. I'm just gonna use Pinnacle.
