This patch is very important because it adds native support for higher resolutions, widescreen, modern hardware, and generally makes System Shock 2 better. The link below leads to a installer that will assist in patching your copy of the game. Enjoy. :)

SS2 Tool v4.8 (New Dark v2.4)
As far as I can tell it's already included in this version (see System Shock 2\doc\release_notes.txt).
wait, so they state in the interview that no existing patches are good enough for them and that they created their own, and then go and bundle up an existing patch? That would imply that either night dive are claiming responsibility for the 2.4 patch (and hence also thief 1.19, which would get them in trouble with eidos), or are trying to claim credit for someone elses work...

~wanders off to reread that interview to check I'm not misremembering it~

Edit:

'Kick: Night Dive Studios secured the license to distribute the game, and made the initial modifications to allow the game to run on most current operating systems. '
sounds pretty explicit to me. :/

Unless they are the guys who made that patch to begin with that's a little weird.

Ah! You followed me from the BSGF!

Anyways, so it is indeed included?

yes, this is a blatant lie - unless Kick really is le Corbeau, which seems doubtful.
I guess the best way to know is to try setting resolution in-game and seeing what is available. If it doesn't support widescreen, then the install isn't bundled with New Dark. If it is there...well, I am not sure of what to make of the situation, as the unofficial patch was anonymously made from source code without the permission of the license holders when it was first released.

And Timeslip too. Small world. :P

It's definitely included. The only difference I noticed was that it uses the original key bindings as the default, instead of more sensible ones. :P

I'm perfectly fine with them using this patch, really we didn't need anything else. It's pretty much the ideal outcome for us.

Still, because of the questionable background of the patch, and because they said they were doing their own fixes, it is a little odd.

I wouldn't go making accusations without knowing first. They could have done their own patch.

We also don't want this thing getting pulled from gog.com now that it has finally made it here. Please sit on your hands if you have to.
It's possible they have permission to use the patch but made the claim that it's their own to deflect any legal trouble from using it.
In any case, if someone could confirm what fan patches and mods are already in the GOG version and which ones are needed for newbies like me, that would be great.

I'm pretty sure that either GOG or Night Dive WERE responsible for the V2.4 patch 5 months ago. So including it doesn't count as adding "existing patches". I could be wrong though :)

Yeah not giving credit to people who worked on this patch is bad things to do.

Apparently they are not.

I've actually been trying to use the 2.4 patch with my original disk version but the game always crashes as soon as you get to the first cutscene (after choosing a branch of service). I'm kind of hesitant to buy the gog version as a solution to the problem I'm having because it may have the same problem.
