Hey everyone, what a glorious moment with SS2 on GOGcom! ;) Here and there some people ask if they should play SS1 before 2, while my answer is No, doesn't mean you shouldn't know what happened in the first game. So if you think the first SS is too hard to get used to, why not watching my 1hour30minute speedrun before sinking into SS2?

And if you want to see the 9 hour long Lets Play here you go (requested by Fenixp):

I didn't want to make this a whole promotion for myself.. but well, things turn out differently as someone thought.
I love the SS franchise, and I want as much people as possible play and experience it!

Have fun!

Dude, the answer is Yes! No is an answer to the question whether they need to play SS1 before SS2, but they most definitely should, as SS1 is, in many aspects, superior to the second game (and in many it's not, they're roughly on par really, altho I like the first game more) - there's really no good excuse not to play it with System Shock Portable around, since it allows you to pretty much tweak the game to a state where you will enjoy it.

At any rate, I'll check out the speedrun, I was always wondering what's the fastest way to finish it. I also don't believe a speedrun is a way to go for someone who has not played SS1, regular LP would be much better - he can then get to properly explore the story and the Citadel Station itself, which quite simply had loads of optional areas worth seeing.

I too have a 9 hour long LP for SShock1 covering all locations, but that's a lot of time someone has to waste before finally getting into SS2, don't you think? The run is by far not perfect, I do a lot of useless things, hitting walls here and there (muselook came short after, but even then I wouldn't have used it) and pickup lots of crap ammo I never need.

Sure, SS1 is superior even to todays games, but I see both titles as separate thing, like I would never compare SS2 with BS if you know what I mean.

Not really, if someone just wants the short version, there's a story recap of SS1 in the game's intro, if they actually want to experience the game, well... You scavenging for ammo and hitting walls is the way to go as far as I'm concerned :-p Don't you just want to post a link to both?

I don't, they're FPS games with RPG elements, of course they're comparable. And SS2 is especially comparable with Bioshock as Bioshock is basically a slightly tweaked SS2 :D

It just makes me angry when I think of the fact BS had all that deeper RPG elements from SS2 but got cut because of commercial success as goal (i know companies need to make money to survive, but I miss the "we want to create someone oustanding"mentality of the 90s) and now they squeeze it out in BSI as 1999Mode. My hopes are that this mode is comparable to SS2 way of handling lightRPG things.
