I would like to know before I buy the game, Is the SystemShock Enhanced Edition a new DOS release of the game or is it a windows executable? Also Is the music still General Midi or did they do some sort of pre-rendering?
it has everything; https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=8030.0
I take it the enhancements are windows only. I ask because the dos version is able to be used on any OS not just windows. Granted there is always wine. But I have never tried midi rendering through it.

So the dos executable is included? Your list does not say
I haven't bought the game, but if it's the free (up until yesterday!) "System Shock portable", which has all the same enhancements, then it will come with DOS

It is an enhancement of the SSP, and it has higher system requirements. So it isn't quite the same as SSP.

System Shock portable was never actually free, the distribution of SS1 files with it was illegal. The only reason it stayed up was because EA didn't care and Night Dive was nice enough to allow its existence up until they were ready for a release.

When you buy the enhanced edition, two versions of the game get added to your library - Enhanced and Classic. The classic edition contains SS1's .iso file, with installer and everything included (but you do have to extract it from the GOG's installer first, which won't work on a DOS machine)

Since this was not properly answered: You get the enhance edition and the classic edition. Classic is the original DOS release, it has none of the improvements, but you could try to get the mods that were used for SSP to work with it. Or wait for SSP to be made into a standalone patch.

The enhanced edition is the DOS version in a compatibility wrapper for Windows, plus enhancements. This means it's not running through DOSBox, but natively on Windows and Windows only. You could try to get it to work through Winde, it's supposed to work according to people who tried it, but don't take my word for it.

no, EE is using a reworked version of Malba Tahan's SHLINK, which was never part of SSP. under normal circumstances, it should have better stability and be faster than dgvesa and dosbox in SSP. EE runs nice on my very old XP machine, doing about 30 FPS where dgvesa was doing about 15 and dosbox about 0.5 (yeah, that's half a frame).

If you want the Classic (DOS) version with the Mouselook and Highres enhancements, simply follow the steps I outlined here :
http://www.gog.com/forum/system_shock_series/invert_mouselook

You could simply just not alter it for Inverted mouselook and you'd have an Enhanced version of the DOS game, if that's your desire.

But Enhanced Edition uses a lot of the mods that SSP uses, right? Hence why you were working with Night Dive to get it released? So in a sense it is built upon your work on SSP. Or am I missing something entirely?
they both include the mouselook and hires mod, but that's all. SSP used the old DOS version, while EE uses a new version of SHLINK, which, while including its own version of the mouselook and hires mod, was never part of SSP.

Voodoo47 didn't work on the SSP or the Mouselook patches. Those were the work of Malba Tahan and the SystemShock.org community. Any of his dealings with Nightdive were in collaborating the release/announcement, but I'll leave it to him to elaborate further on his exact role.
Wow, I'm impressed it's an enhanced version...sounds like a nice release!
I actually did (SSP), just a tiny small insignificant bit, but yes, the mods themselves were made by other people, mostly Malba Tahan in this case.

my role in everything is pretty hazy, bit of testing, FAQs, recommendations, troubleshooting, small fixes and patches, some modding, general knowledge, tips and hints etc.. you know the saying, jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one.
