The game runs perfectly fine most of the time, but will randomly crash or freeze when I enter the full map screen and exit it again. So far it hasn’t crashed at any other time. Only when exiting the full map… I’m playing SS through Dosbox, with the mouselook mod and am using virtual midi synth music, if that helps. In case it’s a DOSBox speed issue, I have the CPU set to “dynamic”, at 200,000 cycles. Any suggestions?

Are you using regular, or Staging Dosbox?

Regular? I’m using whichever comes with GOG’s version of the Classic Edition. I didn’t set it up myself, apart from tweaking various settings in the config file.

This is a shot in the dark, but because Staging is built on newer technologies, it may be more fault tolerant than the grognardly old standard.

Can you explain what you mean by "Staging" and how I might do this? Thanks for your input!

Basically, as I already described, someone forked Dosbox and is making a version that is getting dragged into this decade.

Ah I see, thanks for the tip!

Aye. Of note is that chart of differences between the two.
