omninull: Maybe I should frame my question so it will be more digestible for you guys.
avatar
gibbelin: What a joy you are.

omninull: Why is system shock 2 at a seemingly typically higher price point that many other GOG releases. I would honestly not like seeing this to become a trend, for instance, like they did (through reasons seemingly outside of their control) with increasing the price point for Fallout series, as well as not allowing other titles to go on regular sales (Alpha centari) because they added the expansion.
avatar
gibbelin: Because it's a very in-demand game that was out of print for 15 years, and $10 is a perfectly reasonable price for it? Because the rights were difficult to secure and there are many fingers in the pot?

A better question might be: what about the game makes you think $10 is unreasonable?
I didn't mean to come across as abrasive or insulting, there. I felt my original post was vague, but open-ended. But I'm getting an idea as to why people consider it to be worth the $10 for a GoG release. And while I personally don't necessarily agree with the price, it's defensible as long as long as GoG believes in fair pricing and does it for the right reasons.
This is the worst thread I've ever seen.

omninull: Figures I'd get an inane, mob-like reactive response. Don't think, just buy buy buy!

StingingVelvet: Hey asshole, you asked a question and we answered it. Just because we don't agree with you does not make us mindless drone consumers, thanks anyway.
You guys didn't say anything for me to disagree with.
I was expecting to pay twice this. I was prepared to pay three times this. Trust me, it's a small price to pay for one of the most sublime gaming experiences you could ever have.

OP, never ask a bunch of fanboys hyped up on nostalgia if something is worth the price. These people would pay hundreds for something. Its kind of a crazy.

I've never played it before, so I've a more level headed view on this, it might be worth the 10$ but the mob is high on nostalgia and will lynch anyone that dares question their fond childhood memories.

If we would, we'd already have it, don't you think? There are older games on GOG for 10 bucks, there are worse games on GOG for 10 bucks, how on earth is it so hard to understand that some people might find it reasonable? I mean, it's 10 bucks for crying out loud. Maybe we're just not cheap :-P

It wasn't really their duty to provide substantive disagreement when your original post merely contained an extremely simple "yes or no" question and nothing else of substance.

If you wanted a discussion, providing some reasons as to why you felt the price was too high would have been appropriate. Your failure to do so is no excuse for your subsequent rudeness with regards to "mob mentality" criticism.

omninull: But honestly, don't you think the pricing is a bit much...
No.
Considering that in the old days games came in two flavors ($5.99 or $9.99) I find the pricing to be in line with even Closed Beta back in 2008 or so. Considering that Amazon shows used copies going for on average $45 or more depending on the condition of the box and associated materials and you're already getting a good deal.

Sorry, but I can't agree with you, OP. The price is fair for a 3D, frustratingly difficult-to-license game that is beloved by many people. This isn't a DOS game, and it's got a rich history. The option to be able to play it again at $9.99 is a steal.

Reasonable is subjective :P You have people that find PC games being 59.99$ 'reasonable'. Fanboys generally find tons of DLC, high prices and other crap 'reasonable'. Just a point of a fact, still I've not played SS2, so I cant say if 9.99$ is reasonable, but I did buy it since I LOVE Bioshock and i hear this is so much like it.

My observation about how fanatical and insane people get when fanboyism meets nostalgia still stands, most of the people in this thread just prove my point.

How DARE you question the holy System Shock 2!!!?!?

Don't give me that. You know that not all of the glib responses weren't a facetious response for the glory of System Shock 2. I provided ellipses which should've indicated an unfinished thought and provoked a more open-ended response. It was a failure of the desire to communicate.
They should charge $5.99 for System Shock 1 + System Shock 2 + BioShock + Bioshock 2 + Bioshock Infinite + Dead Space + Dead Space 2 + Dead Space 3.

Calling most people in this thread 'fanboy's' just because they disagree with your ridiculous position is pathetic. I'm not a 'fanboy', I'm someone who understands that $10 is a fair price to pay for a game of this quality. By your own admission you've not even played the game so are hardly qualified to comment on whether its worth ten dollars. Go and play it, finish it and then comment on whether it was worth $10.

You asked if it was overpriced, we answered. Then you attacked us all and showed what an ass you are. If you want to reel it in and ask debate questions go ahead, but that's not really what you did in the beginning.

I think, had you played SS2 before you wouldn't have even posted this message. Been waiting so long for this to reappear. To actually have it available again is awesome! Plus the mods . . . instabuy.
