I'm also having the same issue. Would you mind fixing my saves too? Thanks!

I'm sorry to pile on, Voodoo, but could I also trouble you for a save game fix? The whole group of save games is included. save_1 should be the most recent.
sendspace /file/i8pioq
If it's of interest, I am playing on a Mac, and had modified the game with rebirth and shtup. I've since removed them as part of troubleshooting steps. The save files were all created with the mods still in place, though.
Thank you for doing this.

I'm confused how people keep thinking the mac bit is relevant. It's the windows version. It just happens to be running though a wine wrapper called wineskin. Unless wine is causing the issues, which I highly doubt.

it is relevant, as it does not happen when you run the game under windows. I was also not able to replicate under xubuntu, so it is some nice combination of the game running under wineskin + something random that happens only under macos.
funny thing is that the mac steam version does not seem to have the problem - maybe I'll try to get their mac guy to share his settings.

If it works in linux, it works in mac. Unless Gog did something with their wine engine. I always update the engine in every wrapper anyway as the mac quartz driver is always improving and I usually want to get the latest and greatest. funny thing is that the mac steam version does not seem to have the problem - maybe I'll try to get their mac guy to share his settings.
------------------
Have people download wineskin winery
http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php
open up wineskin winery and dl the latest engine,
Right click on the System Shock 2 package and open contents.
then click on the wineskin.app and go to Advanced
Then under Tools tab click update wrapper, (always good to make sure you are at the latest here)
Wait a min while it works,
Open wineskin again and open tools, then click "change engine used" and update it to the one you downloaded.
If they want, they can switch from the standard X11 driver to Quartz by going to Set Screen Options in wineskin.app and checking use Mac Driver instead of X11. It works fine in SS2.
-----
If it works, great. But if not then, it's most likely a bug in System Shock 2 (what a shock) that must be produced under very special circumstances. In wine, things tend to either work or they don't. I've never seen subtle scripting errors in a program as a result of running in wine, where the program runs fine but but has a very minor bug like this. When something fails, it's rather obvious from the start, and you will see it in the winelog.
Don't get me wrong there are issues related to mac wine compared to linux but these all really obvious in nature due to something not being fully developed yet. Joysticks and graphical flickering in some DirectDraw apps come to mind. But save the joystick thing, there are workarounds.

Actually, Wine developers blame Apple for this screen flickering. Yeah, voodoo47, it's a good idea to test the Steam version of SS2. But are you sure that the swimming issue doesn't occur on Linux as well? Check out this post. Maybe it's just very hard to reproduce it. Any Linux users with this problem?

If it's in linux it very well may be in windows too, if you can find the circumstances that produce it.

so it seems, but anyway, I was not able to reproduce, so it's a tough nut to crack - apparently, there is something pretty rare that triggers it, and I have no idea what could it be.
We probably must look for a saved game where after "doing something" the swimming bug always appears. Then it would be much easier to see which platforms are affected. so it seems, but anyway, I was not able to reproduce, so it's a tough nut to crack - apparently, there is something pretty rare that triggers it, and I have no idea what could it be.
I'd just remind that there is a bug report on Wine Bugzilla concerning this issue. We may want to provide additional info there as well.
