thermodynamix: Found a new tutorial for installing system shock 1 in case anyone's interested:

chriscamaro.hubpages.com/hub/PC-Games-System-Shock-1
YES!!!!!!
Thank you for that!
Now it's time to get that big dusty box from the shelf and return to old good days of PC games' glory...
or you can just get System Shock portable, which also includes mods and fixes, and leave the dusty box alone.
Do this SHTUP version include the model fixes and Olfred's fixed objects?
model fixes = Olfred's fixed objects, and no, they are not included in SHTUP.

A few Olfred's fixed models have been added as a separate download, these make sure SHTUP is fully compatible with the fixed model pack. See the very bottom of this post. To install, just extract the models from the attached archive into SHTUP's OBJ folder, and overwrite the original ones. Install patched SHTUP as last when adding mods manually to the DataPermMods folder, or set it to the highest priority when using Modmanagers.
Hey everyone. Read through the thread but didn't see anything pertaining to my specific question, been looking forward to this game for a LONG time and I'm really hoping someone can help me out.

I'm a computer noob, looking to mod the game with all the recommended ones. I must be doing something wrong. I downloaded all the mods, and the first time I used 7zip to unpack them, then I extracted them to my DataPermMods folder. This prevented SS2 from even starting. So I reinstalled, and this time I unpacked all the mods, then copied them to DataPermMods. This has had no effect on the game, everything still looks like the before pictures. What am I doing wrong?
I've seen that I shouldn't have my game installed in Windows or C:. Where do I install it to then?
the game should not be installed in folders that have special restrictions, like windows or program files. c:\GOG or c:\games is perfectly fine.

as for installing mods, see here; https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4447.0 (also note that creating the DataPerMods folder manually will not work - it needs to be created by ss2tool. anyway, you should really be using a modmanager at this point).

I've been reading that over and over trying to divine the information I need. I'll briefly say the process I am about to undertake then you can see where I'm going wrong? :) :) :)

I'm going to uninstall and then reinstall. Where should I direct the install to be? Right now it looks like this C:\GOG Games\System Shock 2
But that is under windows.

I already downloaded the mods. Do I click on their file, have it open up and then copy it to datapermmods? or extract it? or move it? Copying and extracting hasn't worked :(
Hello community,
I just registered at this awesome page and bought one of my favorite games from the past System Shock2. After downloading the setup_system_shock2de_2.1.0.8.exe file I tried to install it - unfortunately I got the error message : "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program"
Any ideas what I should do - or did I do something wrong?
no, under windows would be c:\windows\systems shock2 (I have no idea what kind of crazy would one need to be to install games there, but I have been in this business for long enough to know that the resourcefulness of the average Joe the Gamer should never be underestimated, so anyway, installing pretty much anything under c:\windows is a bad idea).

currently, the easiest and safest way of installing (multiple) mods is to get the blue mod manager, run it once so the DMM folder will be created, extract each mod you want to use into its own respective folder, and move the folders to the DMM folder, run the manager, activate the mods, run the game (picture guide included in the linked topic). unless you have messed up the mod extraction in some horrible way, this should always work fine.

also, gamesys mods like ADaoB should have the lowest priority, with the eyecandy mods sitting on top with the highest.

well sure i can transfer the file to another disk, not to install it under C:/
I'll try that - if its not working i'll ask again for help - you can call me one of those average joes ;)
you can install it under C:, just don't install it under windows or program files.

basically, if you have it in the default GOG location, everything is fine.
hey again, i tried to run the setup_system_shock2de_2.1.0.8.exe on two different PCs - still the same error that the file is corrupted and i should obtain a new copy of the program. so this is not about mods this is about running the setup to install the game - any ideas?

try using the GOG downloader.
