sampei: is anyone getting the "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to the computer" UAC prompt in Windows 8 64bit ? ... Should I try re-installing it? I don't want to close the UAC settings altogether for such a minor issue but if someone knows a fix it'd be great...

Arkose: Go to the installation folder (by default this is C:\GOG Games\System Shock 2) and open the properties of ; go to the compatibility tab, remove the administrator check box, and click OK, then adjust your shortcuts as needed (GOG's shortcuts point to , which still gives the prompt).

Once you have made these changes the game will launch directly without that prompt.
you beautiful, beautiful man.
I owe you one.

Savant99: Does anyone have a suggestion for a place to host the files? (190 MEG)
Message me, I can put it onto RS, UL and RG for you like the other files
I have since uploaded the upgraded cutscenes, but I need more rep before the board will let me post links, so I'll have to wait a bit before I can post them.

In any case I have them ready, and I'll take a look at the other files to see if I can get them converted too.

Afaik there is no rep requirement to post links here. :\

Hmm, that's odd. No, I can't. I just get a "+" text. I never tried cause they looked useless, but how weird is that? Do they work if the game is unmodded?
known issue with ADaoB. will be fixed, so you can pointlessly hurt yourself again (cigs are -1hp).

Create a new account and try and make a post with a link in it. You'll get a message that rejects the post saying that "You cannot post any links at this moment". A search of the forum found a thread that says you need rep to be able to post links. If you have another answer I'd love to hear it.

Well that's odd....when I joined there was no such requirement, and I never heard of any rep requirement put on posting links. :\

(Heck, there are even users here with negative rep who have posted recently.)

Give me the link via PM and i'll post it, if you want.

Just installed system shock 2 and sstools. started game and all appear to be working okay. However the print is very small. Res 1680 x 1050.

Am trying to install the mods referred to in the sticky. Can't figure out how to download. Do I have to download google drive to make use of their files?
see hud scaling at the bottom of the first post. as for the mods, download them from systemshock.org, or click file/download in the google link.

Yeah, the cigarettes only hurting actually seems like a bug in itself when compared to how alcohol and cigarettes acted in Bioshock. Perhaps they made it that way in Bioshock because of complaints in System Shock 2? Or perhaps there's a potential exploit with the psi regen ability, so they removed it last minute. Hehe, too much hypothetical I guess.
I think that there is an important lesson to be learned - smoking damages your health and it can kill you.

Yeah I was a bit surprised too. You'd think making a purchase would wipe any requirement for rep. I don't think it applies to GOG links so let me try this...

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/you_cannot_post_any_links_at_this_moment

Read that thread, one of the GOG team members confirms the rep requirement.

Yeah so it works with GOG links. The GOG team member says that you need "about 20 rep" to be able to post links. They added this to deal with spambots. (which is very reasonable)
