make sure you have admin rights, and the game and the tool are not in a protected folder like program files or windows.

shadowknight2814: I created a zip with a large number of the graphical mods for system shock 2... gog won't let me post links. How many posts do I have to have before I can post a link?
don't bother. as soon as something gets updated, you will have to repack it again. that's why nobody did it before.

Thanks, that did the trick.

Dave3d: Are you editing the cam_ext.cfg in the "C:\GOG Games\System Shock 2" folder?
Or in the "C:\GOG Games\System Shock 2\doc" folder?
You should be editing the one in the main folder (first path).

Also, see this thread:
http://www.gog.com/forum/system_shock_2/game_textfonts_very_small_on_high_resolutions

Some people are having to re-comment that line, and add their own line:
d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 960 600
Yup, the file being edited is in in c:\GOG Games\System Shock2...NOT the on in the doc folder.

Interestingly, I have an installation that I setup using the original game CD using SS2Tool 4.8 and the HUD scaling works fine. I think there may be some bug in the GoG build preventing it from working.

no. works fine on my GOG version. no idea what's wrong with your install.
So I just unpacked all the mods I wanted into the DataPermMods folder (which now contains quite a few extra folders and such) as a lot of places have instructed me to. Some readme's talk about making it mod-ready by creating a res folder et cetera.

Is that necessary? I find it odd that some simply say that you should unpack into the right folders, while others mention stuff like mod-ready and whatnot.

EDIT: Problem is that some of the download pages tell you to unpack into DataPermMod, readme's often say to put it into datapermanentmod or even into the root directory. Why is there so much contradicting instructions? Should I (for example) put schmup into DataPermMod as the site says or into the root directory as the readme says?

consider all FAQs and readmes outdated, unless they are on systemshock.org or here. see the first post for a full guide for the GOG edition.

Thanks voodoo. The game is working great so far.
Voodoo47, I think you'll need a few stickies to organize all your great information. This is getting a bit long and cluttered. When you have time. :)

voodoo47: just deleting the files is fine. to clarify, it's not game breaking, but those files override their newer versions (which have their own folder now), and that causes some bugfixes not to activate.

I assume ss2tool 4.9 will do this automatically.
After doing this and replacing that dll you linked to fix the cinematics with the vanilla one the cinematics still work so I guess that dll is not necessary if the patch is done right after all. Or it's a fluke.

Quick question.

So when I start up the game, I have 2 circles (rectacles I would guess) in the middle of the screen. I played the intro movie and updated my controls and they are there the whole time. Anyone know why/how I can get rid of them?
Apparently you've hit the max number of downloads for SHMUP. I wish I had grabbed that earlier :P

Edit: systemshock.org is back up, so I just grabbed the torrent from there.

Thanks a lot man. You've been a lot of help.

Tried starting it, but I got a black screen. I could hear the menu noises in the background, but I had to ctrl+alt+del to get out. Tried manual intel safe mode without luck. Gonna try and figure this out tomorrow, as it's getting late.

EDIT: Deleted the entire folder and re-installed the game without any mods. Still doesn't work. Seems to be an issue regarding the game itself, rather than the mods or the ss2tool.

Well, I guess it must have been that particular PC that I was installing it on. I'm going to guess some oddity with the video card or it's driver.

I installs the GoG version of SS2 on another PC and everything worked as it should. Sorry to put you all through ringer with all my questions.
Seems like all the google mirrors are failing.
what about a widescreen fix? i found one but it wont work for me(i would post a link to the one i found and a picture of the error i got but for whatever reason the forums tell me "you cannot post any links at this moment"

i want to play the game but i cant do with the bad FoV and only 1024x768...makes me literally nauseous
