If you install the game the "skip_intro" line is present in the "cam.cfg" file right from the start. In other words: The Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios logo animation (*\System Shock 2\Data\cutscenes\Intro.avi) is not even shown when launching the game for the very first time. Usually, the "skip_intro" line is being added after you have launched the game for the first time which makes sense considering you don't wanna see this video again and again and again when launching up the game more often.

Why is this? Did somebody at GOG.com forget to clean the cam.cfg when creating the installer?

I know that this is a minor complaint but I would love to see it fixed in a new installer if this has happened unintentionally.

For me when I did an initial install and launched the Intro.avi played for me and ever since then when I relaunch the game it doesnt anymore.

I looked at my cam.cfg and saw the skip_intro line and deleted it and relaunched the game and had the Intro.avi play again. Then I exited and relaunched and saw that ya the game DOES in fact upon first clean install and launch of the game load the Intro.avi but after that first play it adds the skip_intro line to cam.cfg so it wont play upon relaunch.

BTW if you didnt realise it, skipping cutscenes in the game is as easy as clicking the mouse. + the Intro.avi custscene you speak of starts off completely black.

So mayb when you launched your game the first time after initial clean installation you gotta black screen and clicked the mouse hence forth causing it to add the line to your cam.cfg without you knowing and you to skip it without even realizing it.

I unno but I know for a fact that by default when you initially do a clean install of SS2 from gog.com and launch it for the first time it will show the Intro.avi video and after it plays that once it should add the skip_intro line to your cam.cfg so that next time you launch the game it wont play again.

Nope, that's definitely not the case. Just did another clean install without launching the game. Here is a part of the content of my cam.cfg:

; set trait cache to include concretes
trait_cache_flags 2

sfx_vol_music -474
sfx_vol_2d 0
sfx_channels 48
game_hardware 1
sfx_device 4
sfx_eax 1
master_volume 0
game_screen_flags 45
game_screen_depth 32
game_screen_size 640 480
gamma 1.
skip_intro
sfx_vol_3d 0
game_full_screen 1
So, skip_intro shouldn't be there.

Ya I unno why.

But does it really matter that much honestly?
If you know about that why did you state that the animations are being played for you after a fresh install? That shouldn't be the case with skip_intro. It does not make a whole lot of sense if it works for you but not for me (it does though if I manually delete the line). And please don't think I'm attacking you, I'm just trying to make sure that I'm getting you correctly.

No, it is not a major issue, but it is not hard to fix this for GOG either.

I didn't get Looking Glass/Irrational Games logos or the intro. They SHOULD be there, especially since unlike in new games, you could skip them by clicking or pressing any key. So it gives that great feel when you fire up the game without the annoyance like with new games where you have to watch a freakin 2 hour video of logos and messages before you can even play the damn game. Skipping them is of course not even possible without hacking the entire damn game apart.

I missed this the first time i launched the game and i thought they couldn't fix the videos, but by clicking INTRO it played. Still, this should be fixed imo.
ss2 tool fixes this. wait for the 5.0 release.
This need to be fixed as soon as possible, because Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios are the only ones who really deserve all the credit (also the modding community) for creating this masterpiece...

Yes, the new version of SSTool does fix it indeed. Thanks for the tip!

Still, I would like to see an updated installer. It's your turn GOG!
Oh, so this is how the "expert techninjas" improved GoG version ;)
Why do the intros only play once though? If you exit and relaunch it goes straight to the menu. I am not complaining mind you. I just want to understand how it works :)
because seeing the logo all the time will quickly become annoying.
With option to skip them, no (and SS2 does allow that by hitting any key). But it is annoying in new games where you can't even freakin skip them. The retard who thought anything like that would be great should be hanged by the gentlemen eggies...

Yes, there used to be a time when it was understood that games were to be enjoyable and catered to the user, not an optimized cash-pump.
