i have some wishful thinking, is it possible for the sale of system shock 2 to spark some devs or company to make system shock 3 because they notice the sale of system shock 2 and that people are still interested in the system shock series . i know some weird insurance company now owns system shock and that Ken Levine probably wont make a system shock 3 anyway system shock 2 really hold up good today and i still get a little scared when playing it.
Surely a System Shock 3 is basically Bioshock? A rather dumbed down version of System Shock 2 that appeals more to the lowest common denominator. Although I freaking LOVED Bioshock when it came out.

Not enough people would care, my man. It would be more likely that whoever made this game possible would just reboot it as an extension of the Bioshock world or whatever.

They could do it and it would sell as well as any Bioshock even if it wasn't dumbed down this time. The reviews would be good, fans of the dumbed down games would buy it based on the Bioshock name alone (call it System Bioshock or similar, that doesn't mean it has to be in the same world, just as Infinity isn't really), and maybe the majority would hate it after the fact but we'd still have it and love it even if the next game would have to be dumbed down again to appease the people disappointed with it. Basically, they've made the style and themselves relevant enough to be able and do this one more time, if the publishers allow it, which they won't, obviously. Although I must say that with some thought put into a default easy mode they could make even fans of the dumbed down games like it,

I have no desire for a system shock 3. What I would like however, is a brand new ending for system shock 2. Re do the entire levels from "where am I" onwards.
There won´t be a new System Shock in the near future, regardless of the financial success here on GOG. The creative rights are spread over different parties. Whats the reason it took so long, to get it published here. And for Ken Levine doing Bioshock instead of System Shock 3.

Sorry to say this - but forget the idea.

No it's not, well at least anymore Star and Meadowbrook insurance now holds all the cards for the System Shock i.p. well save for the rights to the first game itself. As EA let their share of the rights lapse and they were able to capitalize and re-register the last remaining parts of the rights(the name and publishing rights)

"George Borkowski, a lawyer for Star and Meadowbrook, and a partner at Freeman, Freeman & Smiley LLP, made it seem simpler. In an e-mail, he claimed that Star owns all the rights to System Shock 2, including the trademark, and that EA’s rights reverted back to Looking Glass years ago."

It would just end up being like Bioshock, SS2 with better graphics and dumbed down in every other way.
Good to know. Now I have only to think about the question, if I really wish the game to be continued after all the years passed by in the industrie.

Maybe I can put it like this: Since Deus Ex: Human revolution my trust is starting to come back again. Now I wait for Thief 4 to happen. If this goes well and the game does not become an atrocity - than I could start to like the idea of a return of System Shock.

Thats something to say. Three years back in time I would rather see the i.p. rot forever than become "reformulated for a new generation of gamers".
System Shock 2 has the ending appropriate for the System Shock 3, only reason why it hasn't been done yet is that this game has a very specific userbase and if you don't do it right, you better not do it at all. And thats the only way it should be. We don't need another money milking crap thats just holding onto the famous name. We've seen it before and we know how that end up...
I would love to see a System Shock 3 (and no, Dead Space and Bioshock don't count...). The ending just begs for a SS3; I want to see the continued adventures of Shodan. Also, deeper customisation would be nice.
I'd love to play SS3 but maybe we'll have a spiritual successor in Cyberpunk. I'm really looking forward to that game.
Cyperbunk would be more like Deus Ex me thinks... More geared to the RPG side, with NPCs to talk to and what not...
If SS3 was made, Shodan would either be a protagonist, or it would involve some company trying to catch Shodan for their own research, or... the grandson of the original hacker(yeah right... forever alone lol) or another hacker tries to stop her from doing her experiments on earth, or....

well.. there are lots of options, but Shodan as a protagonist would be great.

Or maybe a First person rogue-like-ish survival horror rpg where stopping shodan from experimenting on earth is only part of the nightmare... Just not sure how to do something like that.
