If you're like me and prefer "airplane"/Inverted mouselook controls, here's what you do :

In Enhanced Edition :
- Edit : controls.cfg
- Alter : set mlook_vsens 30
- To : set mlook_vsens -30

Inverted achieved.

In Classic Edition :
Part 1 :
- Download Mouselook patch from here : https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=1719.0 (Thanks immensely to Malba Tahan for creating this)
- Unzip all files to : <Install DIR>\SSHOCK
- Edit : Xcyb.cfg
- (Alter and To steps same as Enhanced Edition)

Part 2 :
- Edit : <Install DIR>\SSHOCK\CDshock.bat
- Alter : cdshock.exe
- To : xcdshock.exe

You'll now have Mouselook and Highres in the Classic game. To alter back to the OEM Classic game, simply reverse Part 2.

This isn't a full solution as the mouselook in cyberspace will still be "normal". Is there a way to fix this too?

Ugh this is a problem for me as well, pleasepleaseplease someone fix this or offer a solution, I'm on level 1 so I can suffer through for now but I KNOW it will get harder soon!

I fully agree that the Cyberspace controls are a real pain to deal with and are, let's face it, not really up to the task being asked in the game. Even the mouselook author Malba Tahan admits that the the Cyberspace controls are dodgy in the thread where the mouselook patch is posted on SystemShock.org.

So, here's how I dealt with this. I rebound the normal Cyberspace controls to a Gravis USB Gamepad I have. This approach will work for any joystick in Dosbox, but the only requirement is that is has at least 4 buttons. So here's how to accomplish this :

- Edit the dosbox config (dosbox_systemshock.conf) and make sure the [joystick] section is comparable to what I have below. The only change I made was to set it to 4-axis (from auto). This prevents DOSBox from only allowing 2 buttons, which IMO isn't enough :
joysticktype=4axis

- In game hit Ctrl-F1 to go to the Mapper screen
- Alter the following keys by going to the key mentioned, clicking "Add" and hitting the appropriate button/axis on the joystick
~
W - Up
X - Down
A - Left
D - Right

(The following are set according to feel as each joystick varies the exact ordering of the joystick buttons. Below is my personal setup. Alter to suit your own needs)

S - Button 0
Z - Button 1
C - Button 2
Enter - Button 3

This allows Move Forward, Roll Left, Roll Right, and Fire respectively. This should be sufficient for most people's needs (I beat the game with this exact setup), but of course if you have a nice joystick like a CH Fighterstick or something, feel free to assign even more to it. You'll have to figure out what the keys beyond what I list are. Adding more functions is beyond the scope of this tutorial.

To doublecheck your key assigments, simply go to the appropriate key, hit "Next", and view the assignment. If you want to alter it, simply hit "Del", and then "Add" again, setting it to whatever button/axis you wish.

Once you have all this done and set to your liking, simply pickup up the joystick whenever you enter Cyberspace and play it like you would a simple flightsim. I found this technique remarkably effective and, as I mentioned earlier, I beat the game this way.

Honestly, the EE's Cyberspace controls aren't much better. And nowhere close to as capable as remapping them as I outlined above.
