Shouldn't you try it first before cheating just because some say it's too hard? Especially when it has difficulties to choose from.
I agree with all the "Don't God Mode on Playthrough 1" stuff.
Ammo cheats and hacking supply spots should be enough to help get you through most of the game and not screw with the tension much.

However, if you do want to use cheats on New Game, I do recommend the one to prevent gun breaking.
That will make the game a decent amount easier while giving you a reliable weapon other than a wrench.

(Its been years since I last played this game myself, Personally I prefer the item spawn cheats to straight out demi-god-dom. Being a demi-god in a game like this definitely makes it too easy.)

Oh, and a final note on ammo cheats...
You need to know what type of ammo your weapon uses before you try hacking it.
Otherwise you'll end up with like... a bazillion bullets and a gun that uses worms as ammo.
So many dicks in this thread...it's like I opened a big ol' bag of dildos.

LordRikerQ: So many trolls, we get it, you your a facist that that hates cheating. Guess what? Unless your going to buy this guys game, or anyone else who finds cheating fun, you have NO RIGHT to push your silly agenda on people.

Antaniserse: Jeez., chill out Capt. Freedom... i don't see anyone "pushing an agenda", just giving advice to avoid ruining a game.

It is not a run&gun FPS game like Serious Sam, if it is his first playthrough, doing it straight away in God Mode is simply a sad waste of a nice setting and atmosphere.

First of all, the game is just average in difficulty (and got you 4 levels of choice), and second of all, you can just go along normally and, IF you ever get stuck somewhere, still have the option to cheat a bit with it with some ammo or some cyber modules...

I mean, even in cheating, there are ways to do that right, instead of flat out tossing the game out of the window...
Yes, people are pushing their anti cheat agenda on people telling them not to cheat, its a very demanding tone some of you have about not cheating

Im going to cheat just because so many people want to tell others not to.

oh look my game is going to be ruined!

No, they didn't.. if you actually bothered to read, the vast majority didn't say "don't cheat" but "avoid god mode", which is very different, and offered alternative ways to make the game easier, including other less extreme cheats (reducing respawn/degrade, etc.)

Going straight for godmode without even try for yourself, just because you read about the "legendary difficulty" (which is BS), is the second most stupidest reason to cheat.

All that's inside is a mirror, which you and Riker seem to be looking into.

I was going to write a lengthy explanation about how people saying something isn't ideal in a certain set of circumstances(cheating in SS2 when playing fore the first time) is as far from fascism as one can get, then you started babbling like a spoiled baby so I decided not to bother.

For a man who claims to know sarcasm/joking, you didn't seem to get that Zylon was joking himself. -____-

I don't see anyone ordering anyone else to do anything. All I see is a bunch of people strongly recommending not to play God mode in SS2 on the first pass through. The reason it is strongly recommended by many (including me BTW) is that we would like to see others experience the game in it's best form and derive the most pleasure from it.

No one is holding anyone's feet to the fire or at gun point over this. Really, words alone do not take anyone's freedoms away nor does anyone here have any power to enforce or otherwise coerce anyone else to do their bidding. There is a big difference between fascism and strong recommendations.

That being said, there are some who enjoy playing games with full cheats on more than in normal mode. I've known a few over the years, and if that's what gives them pleasure then it's their game to play. But those of us who are on the other side of the coin have the right to be able to voice our opinion on the matter as much as those on the "God Mode" side of the coin.

Now, my personal recommendation (that's recommendation, not order or demand) would be to play the game as intended on Normal or Easy mode. I can say from personal experience that the game on Normal isn't what I'd call difficult...challenging at times yes, but not impossible (there's a mode for impossible). It is my opinion, again based on personal experience, that God Mode will likely degrade the best aspects of the game.

Please, feel free to play in any mode or difficulty you feel you'd enjoy it most in.

Oh, and before we start tossing around insults like "Fascist" we should all do some homework and read what it actually is. Calling someone a fascist is often used as means of degradation designed to distract one from the supporting point by insulting the character of the individual making the argument and has no place in a mature discussion.

EDIT: Just noticed I had a couple of typos I thought I'd correct.

user.cfg and "undead"...

It seems like this doesn't work at first, because you will still take damage on your health meter when hit. However, when the meter reaches 0 you will not die. This is something that was never explained in any of the many places I've seen this cheat mentioned.

Also, if you've been touching the "RESURRECTION STATION" panels around the ship (pre-marked with an up-arrow on the map) if you die you'll be resurrected at the nearest station. I assume you can use these booths no matter what difficulty you're playing on? I'm playing on "normal" and they seem to work OK. This may lessen the urge to turn on godmode by using a "death cheat" mechanism already built-in to the game.

abcman787: Hello I new to the System Shock 2 community and was hoping to try out the game first in God Mode, because of this legendary difficulty. I was wondering how do you enable God Mode in System Shock 2?
Actually, I am pretty quick in looking up the godmode and other cheats in any game.
But I have almost finished it, and I didn't even started to look for a cheat...
You can die endlessly if you have reached a recombination chamber. Load and save are very fast (at least under wine/linux).
(I even didn't look for a walkthrough yet...)
Maybe best: I didn't even know what was system shock 2 until I bought it here and tried it.

Quantum Bio-Reconstruction machine, or QBR. It's not pleasant, but it's preferable to slow decomposition.

Actually, IIRC, it costs you nanites every time you die and get resurrected. I think it's about 10 nanites per pop so once you run out of nanites, that's it, show's over, folks.
