As I remember all the needed features like mouselook and better screen resolutions already been implemented in portable SS. Is it worth to upgrade from portable and get this new version from NightDive? Is there anything that makes it different?
From quick testing, performance on higher resolutions seems to be a lot better than the portable version. It has less options tho - SSP was a lot more configurable. At any rate, if you don't own a copy of SS yet, this is your chance of finally purchasing the game properly.
Portable doesn't support widescreens, at least the version I use doesn't. I haven't tried the GOG one out yet.
So, the fan-made mod, now taken down, was better/more configurable than this commercial release?

Bummer...

Not necessarily, it had more options in its launcher, but I'm pretty sure it didn't allow for resolution and controls customization.
no, the compatibility, resolution and graphics part is better/more advanced than what SSP had (dosbox and dgvesa).
Do we know which mods from the Portable package were not included?

It is explained here. Judas from the GOG staff posted this link on the release thread of SSI.

EDITED because I'm a dumbass who can't embed links properly :-p

Did it have the controls for weapon cycling and one button leaning?
Thank you for your replies. That post on SS.org pretty much covers it all.

I've been able to run the enhanced version at 1600x1200. It runs crappy, but it runs. 1280x1024 works okay, though a little choppy, where it never worked right in SSP for me. Definitely not able to run it at 2560x1440 though. I didn't think I would, but I was curious to see what would happen.... a crash, apparently.

How did you get a higher resolution than the default?

That actually doesn't explain anything if you don't know what was included in SSP to begin with, which I don't.

Have a link for that?
there is an ini file with all available resolutions which can be edited. anything higher than 1024*768 may, or may not work without issues.

the only thing SSP has and EE does not is the true2audio mod, which fixes the log text to match the audio clips exactly. apart from that, EE supersedes SSP completely.

sshock.ini in the base System Shock folder. Look for CustomWidth and CustomHeight to edit. After that fire up the game, go to the Video menu (after starting a game) and pick your custom resolution.
