svatem1: A) no insults; telling the truth is not an insult (e.g. "you're not helping by making a list of clueless rituals of what you've done before the game started working for you")
That is not exactly the only thing you've said. You also said

"if not, you could've as well sweared on your mother's death to achieve the same result.. "

And you don't think that might be insulting?

avatar
svatem1: B) again, telling the opinion of paying customer is not an insult, i told them to quit the business, that can be hardly marked as an insult..
You tell them to quit business because they are in your opinion not competent and that IS an insult.

You maybe should quit posting in forums because obviously you simply don't know how to argument without being rude and insulting (korell summarized it quite well). But I guess you won't because you seem to like it too much to be the way you are (that could just be my impression but it seems to me that you are enjoying it). Don't you think that it is strange that you already have a -12 reputation? Couldn't it be possioble that you simply reflect your own writings wrong? Just think a moment about it before you start your nex (probably gain insulting) post.

Sooo... getting back on track here, the second hotfix has done the trick for me (crashing when keyboard input entered).

Obviously not an easy one to resolve so thanks for persevering with it. You've at least made one more pathetic creature of meat and bone happy!
So are we saying that within a week of release the crashing bug that was affecting just some users is now fixed? There are many cases of games that take lot longer than a week to get fixed, so clearly these guys working on System Shock Enhanced are doing alright. Here's hoping the official patch release won't be too far behind.

toxicTom: For all the people experiencing the "crash after one second":

I had this, and it's now working, my machine is an AMD Phenom 2 X4 3.2 GHz, 16GB RAM, Geforce GTX

I wrote to GOG support and got an answer rather quickly (but with an excuse that it took so long) :-)

Support had the following suggestions:

"Run as administrator" - didn't do it - not necessary.

"Add to trusted list in AV/Firewall" - didn't do it (btw. I only use the Windows Firewall and MSSE).

"Reinstall the June 2010 DirectX runtime package, then use the DirectX web installer."

You can find the archive file containing the 2010 package installation files here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

I reinstalled the 2010 DirectX (already had it), don't know if it had any effect. The DirectX web installer page is currently broken - displaying some Windows 10 download tool, so I skipped that one.

"Try disabling DSR"
http://www.gog.com/support/support_view/potential_issues_with_supersampling_dsr_factors_feature_on_highend_geforce_cards

It's always off on my machine.

"Please update your graphics device drivers"
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

I did that, although my drivers were pretty recent. Don't know if it had any influence.

"Please reinstall Visual C++ 2013 SP1 Redistributable Packages"
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784
after pressing Download select:
vcredist_x64.exe
vcredist_x86.exe

I did that, and I strongly suspect that this did the trick.

I can only say that now the game runs like a charm. And compared to SSP in higher resolutions the performance is just fabulous! Many thanks to the people working on the EE and GOG support. I hope this post may help other people with problems.
This is the same cue card nonsense I received from Support regarding another game. Considering the age of the game none of these "solutions" even make any sense. Support really needs to actually research problems, rather than hand out such meaningless "suggestions".
The game crashed for me when typing a letter into the Name field on the Configuration screen right before starting the game. The patch corrected the issue.
By default the cursor movement in SS Enhanced is way too fast for me, so I modified the controls.cfg to tone down the mouselook by setting it to:

set mlook_hsens 100
set mlook_vsens 10

Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to the automap when in fullscreen mode (or when the game is started at the loading screen for that matter); any work-around I'm missing?

But the strange thing is that the game now works (so far). And believe me, I've tried quite a number of things (uninstall/reinstall even with reboot, config tweaks, compatibility settings, run as admin...).

i want refund
i have no trust in them catching "every occurence" of the bug considering the way they perform testing..
i don't want to play for 4 hours to find out there's another problem rendering it as unusable as it was..

and BIG NO, i do not thank for something that was promised to be part of the deal and wasn't..

voodoo47: also, lets not forget that he is actually up and running now (latest patched exe has worked), so I really have no idea what does he want at this point - any normal person's reaction would be "thank you for patching it up for me so swiftly" and not "my holy crusade of informing people that this product is broken thus saving their souls shall be carried out as long as I draw breath".

actually, lets ask him directly - svatiku, what do you want?

You work with Night Dive to have that kind of internal information? Last time I've checked the only part of their testing you've ever seen was them trying random quick fixes to temporarily help with the issue while they were working on actually resolving the base problem.

well then, I assume you already have placed the refund request, and if that is the case, I would suggest waiting for your money to be returned, and most importantly, leaving this forum (as you have no reason to post here anymore).

have a nice day.

You have a lot of nerve accusing other people indirectly of being childish when I and every other member of this forum have witnessed your hypocrisy. So you are upset that a GOG product is not working perfectly out-of-the-box. Fine. I have been burned by GOG, too. However, I did not bring an attitude problem to the forums. You have done nothing but vent your spleen since the game came out. What have you done here other than be a disruption? Nothing. Either complain to your local consumer advocacy agency or take your gripe to GOG directly. I am, quite frankly, tired of seeing your puerile ranting and attempts at trolling. I would expect this nonsense on the Blizzard forums or a Chan. Not here on GOG. I am earnestly surprised that you have not been muted or banhammed yet and, to be blunt, the mods should consider it. If you are not going to help, then kindly shut up. If you want to warn people to not buy the product, write a negative review and post it accordingly.

Often you don't know WHAT exactly could help. It may as well be something completely different you did of which you was not even aware of (maybe you have installed or uninstalled another prgrogram in the meantime or you have changed a setting which you thought would not be that important). Believe me, I have worked in the software business for a few years (not games but anyhow) and sometimes you'd never expect one thing to have to do with the actual problem you are experiencing and trying to solve. Because of so many different configurations, settings and nowadays even operating systems it is so extremely difficult to make sure that a game will run on every single machine no matter what - especially if it is as old as System Shock which in core still remains an old DOS game. But I tell myself that I don't care WHY it is running as long as it DOES run :) I had a quite similar experience with the classic version of the game under DOSBox. After moving the mouse the game got slower and slower (using different cycles did not help). Then I tried to get another game (Starship Titanic - GPU problems) to run and after managing that System Schock also worked fine. The bad thing is that a few days later that was not the case anymore. No idea what I have changed but I will find out eventually when I finally decide to play the classic version. Another time I received a German Patch for an old LucasArts game grom Gandimann and I also got an error message when trying to start it. Gandimann told me that it runs fine for him and in the end I found out that it only worked when starting the game with the desktop link and not direct. Bug searching is fun but its's also time consuming and you have to be very patient :)

Yes, that is very unfortunate. I am 45 and until now I though that if you talk to people you can solve most things calm and without insults. I guess I was wrong because you just won't stop. Maybe I have to grow up too? I will also try to grow some skin and to not be a fool anymore. Everything to please you because you really seem to be the centre of the universe.

Sorry, but I just could not resist to be a little sarcastic here. The way he behaves is far beyond reasoning and I really, really, really hope that GOG will give him back his money (even hough the game works for him and they have no obligation for that anymoe) so this will finally stop.

As already stated, you've no insider knowledge of how Night Dive carry out their testing, you've only seen a quick (yes, a week is pretty darn quick) fix to a bug that some (only some) users were getting, a bug that was not seen during testing.

As for you wanting a refund, I hope you DON'T get a refund as you have stated that the game now works for you.

Why you only played for 10 minutes I don't know. If I were ever so eagerly awaiting a fix to let me play a game, then as soon as I get a hold of that fix I'd be playing it.

You know, you are starting to sound like someone trying to get a refund just to take advantage of GOG's DRM-free installers. I bet if GOG gave you a refund, because you claim it doesn't work for you (when it does now, as you stated), then you'd keep the game installer and play it for free.

And again with the insults (that you say you don't do).
