EchoOfMidgar: Cmon, who would ever build a spaceship like this? It makes absolutely no sense. F..e. those squares on the wall, what...why? What's that? What's its purpose? What's the purpose of having walls skewed like in the first Tomb Raider games? It's just ridiculous....

Back in the day, when computers' power was not strong, it was the best approach when building levels but now it just looks bad and awful when replicated to the modern era with modern graphics.

Also what's wrong with all the lights? Is this some kind of disco? One room and every corner of it has a different color. The wall are blue, one corner is orange, the opposite one is red, the one next to red is green.....I am just speechless.....Just awfull...
Just posting to completely(!) agree. The squares especially, caught me at first glance...that is outright brain-dead. I don't think it has anything to do with being genuinely "faithful" to the classic (which I love and consider one of the best games of all time), but rather just being totally clueless, and blindly recreating surface things while being completely blind to what really made the original game special, underneath.

ZylonBane: Decent tapdance attempt, but no, just accept that "U" said a dumb thing and move on with your life.

My last post is called FACT. Your post, which has no argument whatsoever, is commonly known as losing an argument, buddy. With no argument and no modern remake to play, U should be the one moving on. I'm staying right here because I'll actually have a game to play that I like, unlike you. I was actually supporting the game and that's WHERE I WAS. WHERE U AT? Nowhere, so no game for you!
ProTip: Repeatedly bleating "WHERE U AT?" doesn't magically transform fervent speculation into facts.

I'm sure this distinction will be lost on you since you apparently aren't dealing with a full deck of hammers. But hey, you can operate a caps-lock key and type exclamation points, so let's see how far that takes you in life.

THEN SHOW ME THE ARGUMENT if you insist there is something I "didn't get." It was due to the MARKET = PEOPLE LIKE YOU that the modern remake was abandoned. That came from the Nightdive's OWN MOUTH and the publishers' own mouth. Show me the counter-argument to THAT, Mister anti-capslock. Again, where u at when an argument is needed if you so desperately want to put me in the wrong. That game wasn't made basically because of YOU! There weren't enough of you out there. You were outnumbered by those who wanted the faithful remake. Don't complain and play the victim here. Don't compound your victimology with blame-ology too, HA HA...! Again WHERE U AT? I'm not using this phrase for nothing here. That basically was the reason that game was abandoned. You people were NOWHERE.

went through the posts a few times, but I'm still having a hard time understanding what he is complaining about - I think he is upset with NDS going their own way with SSR instead of doing the faithful remake that has been set as the goal very early in the development (the quasi restart they did had nothing to do with faithfulness btw, they needed to change the engine and stop getting distracted by unimportant additions like the AI dismemberment system), and is trying to blame oldskool basterds for not raising enough stink and failing to prevent that from happening? and now they don't deserve the faithful remake (which they aren't getting, btw), or the actual remake (which they do not want)?

um, whatever dude?

It's simple. Putting the original art-style and the level design (not how the levels are built but what individual objects, walls, etc. represent) to modern graphics was a bad decision. The modern graphics uncovers how nonsensical the original style was. All those weird skewed walls, weird objects, weird cubes on some walls, that just cannot have any real purpose, are just stupid. Nobody would built a space ship like this. The old graphics were able to hide this fact but in the modern graphics it just stands out.

I have never worried much about realism in a video game.
agreed with both.

EchoOfMidgar: That's the problem. It just looks unrealisticly. As I said, nobody would ever build a spaceship' interior like this. No sense, it has absolutely no sense.

It might be a 1:1 but I do not care for modern graphics just shows how nonsensical level design in the original game was.
Congratulations, it isn't a space ship. It's a space station which has been lovingly redesigned into a personal fortress by a malevolent AI. It stopped making sense when the ethical guidelines were taken offline.

You do not understand. The artstyle is just awful.

Maybe it's just not your game. Let it go.

The rooms are all cubes, which quickly becomes repetitive. And System Shock 3 sadly was canceled, even though the first screen shots looked really promising.

I would hope that the franchise is successful, because that would result in more games set in this world. But a faithful 1:1 remake might not appeal to a large audience and might not be economically successful, as Echo of Midgar rightfully points out.

But yes, it's also true that people who wished for a more modern remake apparently didn't back the kickstarter. So they can't complain.

I've not been able to find any official news about the game being canceled. Where did you read that?
I don't think SS3 was ever officially cancelled. But it does appear to be quite dead. Hopefully, not permanently. Otherside made so many bad decisions with Underworld Ascendant that I can see why this happened.

this looks 100% like a real space station. Ive had to help recreate the ISS for a stage, that shit is cuboid.
