On the product's page is says the game is less then 500 MB but when I download it the file size is 1 Gig and I'm curious about the discrepancy.

I'm just re-downloading it as the installer is a later version than the one I have (I have 2.0.0.20 but the latest one is 2.1.0.23). The installer file size is 461MB, just as it says on the GOG My Account download page.

Are you downloading via the website or via the Galaxy client? Only Galaxy will download the uncompressed game files so is a larger download than the installer, which contains compressed files to be extracted during installation.

I believe that Galaxy will eventually download compressed files and decompress them as it installs the game, saving bandwidth, but I don't know when this will be implemented. You can, however, set Galaxy to download the installer itself (via a backup option I think), which is useful.
