Hi all

I was very excited to see Syndicate Wars here - even though I already own the original game on CD, I bought it again on the basis that GOG had stepped in and got it working well on modern machines. Yes, I am aware of the port, but it runs too fast and doesn't seem to be being actively developed any more.

So - immediate problems. Syndicate Wars loads ok, intro plays ok, etc, and the menus work ok for me once I dial down DosBox a bit (set too high IMHO), but -

When I actually play, after 10-20 minutes, the mouse goes crazy. It flicks to the left hand edge of the screen and stays there. I can move it up and down, but not side to side. If I change resolution and back (with F8), it is then stuck moving up and down in the middle of the screen, instead of the left hand edge.

The mouse is a USB Razer gaming mouse. No funky mouse software running. System runs absolutely minimal, just antivirus and Catalyst control centre running over vanilla Windows 7.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

I'm pretty annoyed. I've re-bought a game I already own and the new version simply doesn't work properly. Especially annoying because the fact that it works for a while means you can get nice and engrossed in a mission and then BAM, no more mouse, no chance to finish the mission.

Before I get a series of answers for dummies:

1. The machine is a modern machine running Win 7 x64.
2. The machine runs all modern and older games fine.
3. I can run anything else I like in DoxBox without this problem, including numerous other GOG games.
4. I am aware of the port and it runs too fast on my machine so is not a solution for me, plus I want the version I paid for to work properly.

Frankly, I think it's a bit disappointing that GOG have just whacked Syndicate Wars into DosBox - anyone can do that.

I have this problem too but sadly I don't think there's other solution than shake less vigorously with mouse or not scrolling so long and so fast to the left. It's kind of no-clip boundaries outside of the map, when they stuck mouse there's no way to return to playable range. Will happen more frequent on maps with deep water (best example is Hongkong), so use left, right, down and up buttons periodically instead of scrolling entire map or near map end make sure your cursor is in the middle of screen. Also use 1-4 double tap number to quick switch between agents. Sometimes turning off perspective solves this before it happens on sensitive maps but not all the time (F).

I had this exact problem with my old disk copy when running on DOSBox I was planning on getting this in hopes that they fixed it. Apparently not.

However, I noticed you have a Razer mouse. I have one as well. The Naga specifically. So I wonder if it is something to do with that. Could be odd drivers.I also wonder if it might be a polling issue where the sensitivity is set to high. Have you tried another mouse? Of course I didn't have much time to mess with it and never really looked hard for a solution.

I have a Razer Deathadder II (from memory... something like that). It has a particularly high resolution, and in some games with poor mouse support is insanely sensitive.

Glad I'm not the only one with a problem - GOG, please fix!

I am aware of the keyboard controls, but I think life is too short to play a game where at any moment you could randomly be unable to finish a level.

Interesting suggestions re moving the mouse too fast/far - my impression was that it simply happened after a certain amount of time.

Thanks, I tried this at the time and it did nothing. As soon as you give control back to Dosbox you are again stuck on the edge of the screen.

Just want to say that I also have this issue. Win7 64, Logitech g5 mouse.

Wish GOG would respond or do something about this issue.
Yeah, have that problem too and when I read somewhere that you can't save for three missions in a row during the final mission I already expected the worst. And that's exactly what happened. Mouse got stuck in part three of the final level. AHHHHHH. And that's not the only bug. As if Syndicate wasn't hard enough already. That's it, though, I'm not playing through this madness again :) And fuck the church missions too :) Game over, man, game over.
My workaround for this issue has been to use the arrow keys for scrolling the map, and making sure that my mouse doesn't touch the edge of the screen too much. Surprisingly, it's not much of a hassle, and it think it might actually help because it's faster to scroll the map with the arrow keys than it is with the mouse....

This happened to me couple of times but since it was only a couple times I didn't bother to think about it too much.

Now that I think of it, I didn't use the mouse to scroll the view much, I used mostly keyboard for that. It's faster that way too. Just re-bind the controls in the options menu to for example WASD.
if this issue occurs and you happen to be able to get out of the mission, either by cheating or other methods, then simply press F1 to bring up the system menu and then i believe holding control while hitting the first letter of the option you want will open it. i my self was cheating and used the level skip on the mission i got stuck in, keyboarded my way to saving and then just kept hitting ctrl+q in rapid succession until my mouse was released from the screen border
So this issue STILL isn't resolved, very disappointing GOG.

It's 2015. Do you know where your SWARS mouse fix is? It's going to take some time to train myself to use the keyboard for view scrolling rather than the mouse.

I'm assuming we're never going to see a proper fix. Which is really disappointing.
In 2016 the mouse bug is still present, however I've found that the SWars Windows port doesn't appear to have that issue and also solves the speed problem.

It's not 100% perfect as I've witnessed various audio/visual glitches but so far nothing that has affected gameplay and works correctly with Windows 10 so that's a plus.
