Hi,

I have a problem with Syberia 1. All the animations are running extremely slow. I have an HP Envy x2 with a Z2760m Atom processor at 1.7 GHz and 2 GB of Ram, Direct X 9 compatible. Running Windows 8. Not the most powerful system in the world but it covers the specifications for the game. However, all the animations are so slow to render the game unplayable. I tried running in compatibility mode but no result. Any other suggestions?

Have you tried disabling Antialiasing from the game options? It's the only game-specific thing I can think of that could give you such problems. Try tinkering around with the detail level, too, though I can't see it being culpable.

I'm guessing your videos is some sort of on-board intel. Since Win8 is rather new, you should double-check that your drivers are updated. Also, check out how your video card itself is configured, maybe it forces some heavy post-processing (e.g. antialiasing, again) that can slow things down; or whether it has enough memory to itself. For now, you might want to keep the game in XP compatibility as you test these things. Also, remember to apply these changes to game.exe, not Syberia.exe.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. You are right, the graphics are Intel on board. Not the most powerful option but we are talking about a 10 year old game, the hardware is not THAT bad :) I have the most updated driver HP has made available so if it's the driver I cannot do anything about that. I checked the settings of the video card but they are very limited, no antialiasing options. I had already turned off anti-aliasing fand set the graphics to low from the game's menus but didn't help much. Thanks for the tip on changing the compatibility settings to GAME and not Syberia.exe, though unfortunately it didn't help
Having looked around a bit, there seems to be an old issue with multi-threaded machines. Naturally, this should be patched in the GOG version, but just in case, try running the game, then setting the affinity of game.exe from the task manager (to 1 or w/e; sorry - I rarely use Win7, and am not quite sure how it's there; have done this on XP for other games the hard way :P).

For reference, here's one source I found: http://www.syberia-series.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2056

Setting the affinity to 1 (or even 2) worked! Which makes me wonder if the GOG version is really patched. Unfortunately, the patch will not work for it. In any case, thank you very much for your help! Now I can enjoy the game!

Just be grateful MS decided to include that option in the newer Windows versions. In XP I had to run imagecfg from command line to fix Grim Fandango ;)

Actually, you it might be beneficial to submit a ticket to support, describing the problem and solution. Or PM a blue, your choice. Good luck and enjoy :-)
