Would be ok using a pistol as main weapon, or ammo is scarce in this game? There's decent melee weapons to face the monsters in the hardest levels?
This wouldn't be the first game that forces you to conserve ammo to survive, I wanna know if that's the case here.

Running out of ammo does happen... though pistol ammo is maybe the least scarce?

Rifle ammo is plentiful...

Melee weapons tend to be good choices as their damage scales with your skill. Unfortunately, they also break down over time. Invest in the 'blades' skill because those seem to be the most common melee weapons, though you'll run across some lightning spears.
