Arclight386: Tried all this but it didn't solve my trouble; game plays half a second of sound and crashes. Prolly need to configure something for that Xvid codec or something, the converted videos play fine in WMP but when the game tries playing it back it's just a no-go.
Anyway, figured I'd try some launch parameters:
http://swat3.furrycat.net/commandline.html First I tried the -nointro one, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Still hear the sliver of sound so it seems it still tries to play the vids. Then I tried -software to force software rendering, and that did the trick.
Not the most ideal solution, but at least it's running. Perhaps it's of help to someone else as well.
EDIT: Well, darn. Some time ago, I was having some trouble with a game, can't recall which one. A friend of mine then suggested to switch DEP from it's default setting to the alternative using an exceptions list.
Of course, the general troubleshooting guide here on GoG tells you to set it to its default setting... So I did that, and all works fine without launch parameters or additional compatibility settings.
Lesson learned: never take PC advice from someone who knows less about PCs than you do.
I have done the dx update from 2010, I have added the videos and they run fine in normal media player, yet I am still getting the error message. This is more annoying because I was playing fine yesterday.
